hey everyone, i'm going to be a new student at depaul this fall and i went to japan this summer. my host student demanded i create this mixi account and i saw the depaul group after some searching. can anyone tell me what this group is about and if it actually is doing stuff? i studied japanese for 5 years in high school but some of the kanji in your topics escapes me at the moment. also, can anyone help with deciding on a japanese class?
This community in Mixi has been dormant for quite some time. In the past, prospective students from non-Chicago areas have been making posts about general questions, including housing, admission, TOEFL, etc.
In the deeper past, when the "Grand Dragoness" of the community was still present in Chicago, this community board was used to initiate some activities. But I have not observed anything close to those lately. By the way the "Grand Dragoness" is the One that created this community in Mixi. I hope she is able to reply to you!
I am only a frequent (and bored) replier whenever interesting posts are added ^_^. I am a distant learning student for DePaul CTI from Virginia, and I don't have much input on Japanese courses. I have heard that Professor Akino would be a great instructor to take classes with.
Good luck with your coursework and fun adventures at DePaul. I hope that your time will be great!
wow thanks a lot guys you're all being very helpful. i thought this was going to be just a group of depaul graduates that moved to japan or something after taking japanese class. i'm alright now as for depaul info i think. if i think of anything i'll be sure to ask. thanks again!
well i guess i have a couple that i can think of. for one, how would i go about finally getting my student email? and second, does anyone think that the explore/discover depaul session thing is really necessary? whats that all about?
also, general tips about depaul??
In order to obtain your students.depaul.edu, you will need to visit the ID service. When you receive your ID card, try to have them activate your student email.

And I wonder if you were a transfer or new undergraduate student. Depending on the department and your status, you may end up not taking the Discover Chicago class.
What will be your major? I may be able to give useful tips.
first off, not sure of everything mr. masakichi said, so i'm gonna start off with an ありがとう。

thanks a bunch for the email info. i'm a new undergrad student and i'm thinking of studying business but i don't really have any passion except japanese. i don't plan to major in it though because i don't plan on teaching it or anything. i just want to continue the language and end up studying abroad around junior year. the language will help me keep my japanese friendships abroad. anyway like i said i think i want business to be my main focus. i'm about to start my overnight registration on the 20th to 21st. apparently thats when i pick classes and such.
well guys, i've finally finished registering for classes and stuff. my schedule is pretty good looking i think. i happily placed right into jap 104 which is the beginning of the intermediate japanese. i'm planning to study abroad junior year, but i'm not sure for how long just yet. the registration was kinda scary but the second day i realized how much i like depaul. i'm probably going to try to get a job lifeguarding at the pool so i can have an on-campus job. i took the japanese class with someone named keiko teaching i think. there were only two classes i could take for 104 level and i took keiko cuz it sounded right. anyone know which japanese teachers are better??
