(...soaked in lacquer.
A private collection of chinese lacquer work from Germany)
Following the splendid presentation of East Asian lacquer ware from the collection of Klaus F. Naumann with its focus on Japanese art works marking the 100th anniversary of the East Asian Art Collection in 2006, and the subsequent exhibition of Chinese lacquer work from the Mike Healy Collection, Honolulu, we are proud to announce the third special exhibition in this series, with works from an exceptional private collection from Germany. The artworks will be on display in the special exhibition rooms of the East Asian Art Collection and illustrate perfectly the richness and beauty of Chinese lacquer ware.
The private collection of Barbara Piert-Borgers and Walter Borgers comprises approximately 60 exhibits - some made up of several parts -of outstanding quality. The centre pieces of the collection are the masterful Chinese carved lacquer works from the Song to Qing dynasties (10th to 19th centuries). Complementing this exhibition, selected artworks from the Berlin collection will be on display in the galleries of Chinese decorative arts.
