However,There is a question.
"the gamebooks released there and the history of the series in Japan"
Do these point at the range of which extent?

a)All gamebooks released there and the history of the series in Japan

b)The fightingfantasy gamebooks released there and the history of the series in Japan

Hi there, Motunabe. You wrote:

No problem. Between my poor 日本語, your English and passable online translation devices such as Bablefish we should manage. :)

It seems we have some common interests.

We do have a similar interest in FF, hence my original email. What I was thinking is that if you can enlist the help of your fellow Japanese FF fans then that would make it easier for you to research articles, check them for accuracy and pen them in English before sending them to me. (Would help come from the fans here: http://www.trpg.net/rule/FightingFantasy/ ?)

However,There is a question.

The answer is B). The magazine (except for the news section) focusses only on FF.

I was thinking of perhaps a first article from you (and whoever helps you) looking at the general history of FF in Japan for issue 4 (due out 7月) to go along with my article on サムライの剣. We are planning a similar article on the general history of FF in France for issue 3 as France and Japan are the two biggest markets for FF outside of the UK.

The first issue can be downloaded here: http://rapidshare..com/files/293583193/FF1r6.pdf
The second issue is due for release on 10.1.29 (next week!).

I hope my English hasn't been too difficult to understand!

Hello,Alex.
Sorry for my poor English.
My handle name is Torecabancho.
I am a friend of Motunabe.
I am the editor of a fan zine of gamebooks in Japan.
It is offered that Motunabe and several help you in Japan.
Hereafter, I become a Japanese representative, and email to you.

In Japan,
"THE WARLOCK OF FIRETOP MOUNTAIN"is issued in December,1984.
The series volume 33 "SKY LORD" was published in May,1991 at the end.
The publication order is the same as Britain.
It is not published from volume 34 "STEALER OF SOULS" to 60 "BLOODBONES" in Japan.

"SORCERY!" series was published from July through October of 1985.

Recently, gamebooks are re-translated and resold also in Japan.
"SORCERY!" series was resold from August,2003 to March,2005.
"DEATHTRAP DUNGEON", "HOUSE OF HELL", and "SWORD OF SAMURAI" were considerably arranged in the Japan style from January through April of 2009 and resold.

By the way, when the Japanese reads "SWORD OF SAMURAI", the world and samurais are a little strange.
However, it is a little popular because it is humorous.

I hope these information helps you.

Sincerely,

Survey

* = have completed item already
** = underway
*** = no word yet

The Arcane Archive is *STILL* without traction, but a few people have talked of reviews of the DS game and the iPhone game.

IMPORTANT!: This issue will feature a survey of not only views/thoughts of the fanzine as it is and what it could do in the future, but it also will cover the entire gamebook output of the FF range so as to gauge fan views on the series. If you can, when the issue comes out in April, promote the hell out of the survey so we can get as many people contributing as possible (remind them that some Wizard Books goodies are up for grabs for those who send in a completed survey form). In the meantime I am making some web banners to advertise the survey for those of you with websites to display.

I am also taking suggestions for survey Qs about FF and/or the fanzine.

Meanwhile, if you know of someone who'd be great to have as a contributor, tap 'em on the shoulder and make the suggestion.

Look forward to hearing back from you all as to where you are at.

Cheers,

Thank you for the brief summary of FF in Japan. There are 2 things that I am currently looking for help with:

1) Someone to provide a summary of upcoming FF releases/events in Japan (for example release dates & covers for Japanese releases of the FF gamebooks)

2) Someone to write an article covering the history of FF in Japan.

Have you downloaded the latest issue? What did you and your fellow FF friends think? We also have a wikia here:
http://fightingfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Fighting_Fantasy_Wiki_-_Titannica

お疲れさまですm(_ _)m

Still working out how to manage things at his end as to what he (& others) might contribute to the magazine.

It is good news that you wish to contribute some art. There are three regular demands on art for the magazine.

1) The first is an artist for the mini FF adventure which is 10 large pics and 6 smaller pics to spread out the text. I am looking for an artist to illustrate the adventure planned for issue #5 (October 2010 release).

2) The second is we will be running a serialised work of fiction that will need 2~4 pictures each issue for about 6 issues in a row (most likely issues #3~8 [April 2010~July 2011]).

3) The "Out of the Pit" section needs an artist on occasion to illustrate the monsters that are featured.

If you are willing to sign up to any of these that is grand. Or if you have any other ideas for art I would be glad to hear them. One thing I am keen on is perhaps having an ongoing comic in the magazine.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions for art material,

Hello, Alex.

At this stage the magazine has no fixed page limit, so what sort of different comics could you do and what number of pages would each require? And of these different comics which would be one-offs (i.e. a story spanning 1 issue) and which would continue over several issues?

Meanwhile I am curious.

Hello,Alex.

It is described that I decided it.

*It is a cartoon where the story is consecutive.
*It begins with the July edition.
*It is a cartoon on page 8 or page 6.
*The end time dares not to have been decided. (However, I want to draw 20 times and cartoons. Though it is a little dream.)

My reply must be relieved though slows.

1) A continuing story is good.
2) Starting with issue #4 (July) is also okay.
3) It understand you to mean a 6 or 8 page length comic (as opposed to 1 page length comic appearing on either page 6 or 8). 8 pages is okay with me.

You've answered one minor problem: I like all work in the magazine to be credited to people's *real names* rather than internet avatars. So you would be credited as **** *******(what are the 漢字?).

The one big potential problem is language. While I can understand some Japanese (日本語), the rest of the readers probably can't (some are French as well). So the comic will need to be presented in English (if there is any dialogue) as that seems to be the shared language of the readership and the one I'm editing the magazine in. If you want help with translation or someone to just ask English-language questions of, I am happy to help.

I was curious to know where you lived as in 2002/2003 I lived here:

永和1丁目22−4
東大坂市
大坂

I am now living in Christchurch, New Zealand. Many of the magazine's other writers are spread out around the world: Andrew Wright lives in Thailand, Warren McGuire in England, Damien Katz in the US, Guillermo Paredes in Mexico and Julien Meneldur who is writing in issue #3 is from France.

I hope that this is enough information for you to feel confident in making a start. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to email me and ask.

Have not heard back from Torecabancho when emailing him,

about the Japanese edition of "Sword of the Samurai".

What I was hoping to have Torecabancho, or someone else of

history of the Japanese publications of FF. What little

Yes,of course,

"Clash of the Princes"
It was published in Japan in September, 1987.

"AFF"
AFF was two separate volumes. Volume 1 was issued in
December, 1990, and volume 2 was published in February,

I will report more detailed information to you later.

Hobby Japan was giving the same translation.
Shakaishisou Sha was giving a different translation.
(Shakaishisou Sha 82 is 平安川)

My top 10
Sorry, I do not know the following volume more than 33
volumes, because they were not issued in Japan,

1 The Warlock of Firetop Mountain

It was all starts.
I have give my whole mind very much in this book.
I played many times to defeat an attractive monster and
the wizard.

2 Masks of Mayhem
Attractive characters and the surprising tricks are
wonderful.

3 Creature of Havoc
A heavy story is developed.
The idea of the reversal.

4 Scorpion Swamp
The maze can be interactively moved.
A refined system and multi endings.

5 House of Hell
It is very difficult and horrible.

6 Deathtrap Dungeon
Enemies are too strong and too difficult to solve it.

7 Phantoms of Fear
A great system configuration and a great story.

8 The Citadel of Chaos
Charming monsters and magics.

9 Island of the Lizard King
I was drawn into the story and world settings.

10 Sword of the Samurai
We Japanese notice that samurais in Hachiman are very
strange. But
 they are humorous.

Sincerely,
Torecabancho
