Hello everyone.

I am not sure if this kind of topics came out in this comunity or not but here is my question.

I was wondering if i was paying too much for my health insurance.
I have the public one.

I pay arround 30 000yen a month, is this normal??

I know it depends if i have a child or sponse not none of them. Got a girlfriend but no family here.
And my salary is up higher than 300 000. Probably make a difference, i m not sure.

If someone can help me or lettting me know how to calculate it.

Thanks a lot!

Sounds like you're on Shakai-hoken? And hells yeah, if you don't get sick so often (i.e. you do what people in other countries do when sick--stay home, self-medicate, and recover for a day) and have no dependents, I might see about seeking alternatives. Depending on your circumstances, naturally. Then again, you're entitled to a yearly checkup and tooth cleaning (not at the same time) if you're enrolled under national health. Most of the time, your employer would be covering a much higher percentage; I'm assuming that you might be teaching English as a job here--in which case you should also watch out for whether your employer is skimming money off the top.

On the aside: if you're a nonsmoker who can prove he goes to a gym at least 3 times a week and is in good health, under the Japanese plan, you'll be paying the same as the rest of the carcinogen-infused salarymen who, after work, turn their livers into pate at the local izakaya, and who then use the ER as a means to confirm they have hayfever. Wonder why you might be overpaying...hmm.
Thanks for answering.

Im not an English teacher...
Im a chef, i always have been a chef tho!! LOL
At the moment, i just us my Health insurrance for dental stuff, that s it1
I don t drink or smoke. So im not the typical salalry man, LOL

And my employer doesn t help me pay it, so i don t know it s its normal or not!!!

Gotcha. Well first, let me apologize for my assumption about the teacher bit. Depending on your circumstances, you might fare better with something like:

http://www.vivavida.net/en/
http://www.interglobalpmi.com/

Their premiums are certainly cheaper, while the benefits may not be as comprehensive necessarily. Hope that helps!
