I have heard this story from my teacher. He is a great person.
A woman is a person who never cuts corners. She has thought that everything should be reasonable. Some day when she met her friend at a tearoom, a waitress spilled some coffee on a foot of her friend.
The woman watched this sight, and began to get angry. She said that the education for waitresses was not sufficient. A manager of this tearoom noticed this trouble, and came.
Then her friend who was a victim, said,“That's all right. Please don't scold the waitress.” while she wiped a table. The woman was ashamed of her idea of perfection due to sympathy of her friend.
Of course there are matters that are asked for perfection in our ordinary life, but an over-streched string of a bow is easy to snap. We need to have some time for relaxation, that is, the golden mean is important.
What a good story!
I wanna follow the woman who is the victim.
I thought that this story is fabulous, but I didn't understand what is the "golden mean".
You wanted to say that having wide heart is golden? or some another meaning?
Wow, that's a very inspiring story that your teacher told you. Did your teacher think of that himself? It's simple yet the victim shows great virtue lol. This proves that one need not write a complex story in order for the story to have contents. ^ ^
ai3 -> fenomas3 is correct, "Golden Mean" is a philosophy that Aristotle came up with.
Just to add on to fenomas3, the 2 unpleasant extremes that fenomas3 pointed, are Excess (too much) and Deficiency (too little). So in between this 2 lies the neutral which Aristotle defined as Golden Mean (Mean as taking the middle point in Maths) or Happy Medium
It is an idiom so you can use it when writing composition to impress your english teacher. E.g, "We need to find a HAPPY MEDIUM between overdoing the holiday season and ignoring it entirely" (extracted from dictionary.com)
Sorry if i have lousy explanation skills, this is my 1st time explaining thats why lol
