Does anybody know the major details in obtaining employment insurance in Japan?
For example, how long it takes to receive payments, how much you can possibly receive, quitting your job and receiving payments vs. getting fired and receiving payments, etc.

any info or help would be more than appreciated!!!!

奈 is right. You should contact the nearest Hello Work regarding your case. Amount will be determined depending on how much you made at the last employment.

I could be wrong, but last time I heard from an unemployed friend, I learned that quitting job and being fired by employer is very different story and will affect conditions of compensation.

Absolutely. First, Hello Work.They start the process. I believe that in order to collect, you must be actively looking for work; in order to prove that, you go through Hello Work.
Second: At most, you'll be able to collect 80% of your salary. And the timing for when you receive that is going to be a bit tough; for me it was something in the order of 3 months--but I was in an exceptional circumstance. Quitting and getting fired offer different circumstances; for me, it was a bankruptcy (NOVA) that drove things on.

Now: This link might offer some direction, as you will need some documentation; note that some information may change due to your circumstances, but...it should be a decent starting point.

There are certain conditions before you can apply for insurance. First, if you willfully quit
your job, it would take a month or so before you can get your payments (I think it was 3 months).
If your contract expired, then you could immediately get your payments after application (I'm
not sure how long that is, but I was told it would be soon).
You will need to submit some documents, like the the certificate of unemployment from the
company you last worked for. You should also have the certificate of having paid for
employment insurance. These documents should be brought to the Hello Work Office in your
district. They'll tell you the details. As for how much, it all depends on how much you have
already paid.
