Iris Gaines: You know, I believe we have two lives. Roy Hobbs: How... what do you mean? Iris Gaines: The life we learn with and the life we live with after that.
My favorite would have to be a movie called "Boys Don't Cry," which was made in 1999 and was based off a true story that happened in 1993.
It's staring Hilary Swank as the main character, Brandon. And Chloë Sevigny as Brandon's girlfriend, Lana Tisdel.
It's really heart-warming and heart-crinching at the same time. And it also proves that there are many horrible people out there.
(It can be a little bit confusing to people who aren't open to transexuality, though)
But my favorite quotes from it are:
Brandon: Boy, I really fucked up. I borrowed one of Candace's checks. Then I got that speeding ticket, and now it's all in the papers. I just need to learn to stay home, huh?
Lana's Mom: I invited you into my home and you EXPOSED my daughter to your sickness! Did you ever think about Lana in all this?
Brandon: Yes, ma. She's all I think about.
Brandon: (from a letter) "Dear Lana, By the time you read this I'll be back home in Lincoln. I'm scared of what's ahead, but when I think of you I know I'll be able to go on. You were right, Memphis isn't that far off. I'll be taking that trip down the highway before too long. I'll be waiting for you. Love always and forever, Brandon."
Lana: I hate my life.
Brandon: I hate your life, too.
"Jules: Do you know what they call a Quarter Pounder with cheese in France?
Brett: No.
Jules: Tell him, Vincent.
Vincent: Royale with cheese.
Jules: 'Royale With Cheese.' Do you know why they call it a 'Royale With Cheese'?
Brett: Because of the metric system?
Jules: Check out the big brain on Brett. You one smart motherfucker."
Not my favorite quote, but more my sappiest one: Yeopgijeogin geunyeo (My sassy girl)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0293715/
The Girl: You know why the sky is blue?
Kyun-woo: Because the reflection from the sunshine causes...
The Girl: Wrong! It's to make me happy. I wanted it to be blue, so it's blue. You know why fire is hot? It's all for me. I wanted it to be hot, so it's hot. You know why we have four seasons here in Korea?
Kyun-woo: For you?
The Girl: Correct.
There are 2 lines that really stick in my mind. They are sort of
similar but from 2 different movies.
From Swing Girls;
"Hitting the right notes isn't as important as getting into the
groove" (rough translation)
and from Takkyuu Onsen when the housewife starts playing
ping pong with Kohei who immediately smashes the
return.
"No! It's not about winning the point we have to work together
to make the rally last"
"That was strike, Tomorrow I teach you block."
it made me laugh, and think that's how life is sometimes. One day life hits us unexpectedly, and then the next day is when something convienently teaches us something that would've blocked it.
I actually have too many quotes to choose from. it's annoying
Here is a pretty good classic movie quote from "A Few Good Men" for you:
Col. Nathan R. Jessep: You want answers?
Lt. Daniel Kaffee: I think I'm entitled.
Col. Nathan R. Jessep: You want answers?!
Lt. Daniel Kaffee: I want the truth!
Col. Nathan R. Jessep: You can't handle the truth!
Col. Nathan R. Jessep: Son, we live in a world that has walls and those walls need to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and curse the Marines; you have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives and that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives.
You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use then as the backbone of a life trying to defend something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you," and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest that you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.
Lt. Daniel Kaffee: Did you order the code red?
Col. Nathan R. Jessep: I did the job I had to do.
Lt. Daniel Kaffee: Did you order the code red?!
Col. Nathan R. Jessep: You're God damn right I did!
CAST
Lt. Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise)
Col. Nathan R. Jessep (Jack Nicholson)
Here are a couple more pretty good ones from "A Field Of Dreems":
Terence Mann: Build it and they will come!
Terence Mann: The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. Its been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But, baseball has marked the time. This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good, and could be again.
Sara: What should we toast to?
Hitch: Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away.
Hitch: Life is not the amount of breaths you take, it's the moments that take your breath away.
Peter: It's not just about me and my dream of doing nothing. It's about all of us. I don't know what happened to me at that hypnotherapist and, I don't know, maybe it was just shock and it's wearing off now, but when I saw that fat man keel over and die - Michael, we don't have a lot of time on this earth! We weren't meant to spend it this way. Human beings were not meant to sit in little cubicles staring at computer screens all day, filling out useless forms and listening to eight different bosses drone on about about mission statements.
Michael: I told those fudge-packers I liked Michael Bolton's music.
Time for some random legendary bruce cambell quotes from evil dead 3: army of darkness (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106308/) ^^:
- Ash: Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my boomstick!
- Ash: Clatto Verata N... Necktie... Neckturn... Nickel... It's an "N" word, it's definitely an "N" word!
- Wiseman: When you removed the book from the cradle, did you speak the words?
Ash: Yeah, basically.
Wiseman: Did you speak the exact words?
Ash: Look, maybe I didn't say every single little tiny syllable, no. But basically I said them, yeah.
- Ash: Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I *am* king.
Ash: Hail to the king, baby.
One of my favorite quotes, though from a TV series and not a movie:
The Doctor: There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, and the sea's asleep, and the rivers dream; people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, somewhere else the tea's getting cold. Come on, Ace. We've got work to do.
