☆ENGLISH ONLY☆コミュのPrime Minister Fukuda's sudden resignation

Japans Prime Minister, Yasuo Fukuda, suddenly declared his resignation last night.
He sat as Prime Minister for only less than a year!
And to think that the former Prime Minister Abe, also resigned in less than a year!
i think that Japans government or politics is at the brink of destruction. No country's leader or president keeps changing all the time like this. it isn't normal at all.
maybe we should get Hiliry over here to lead Japan haha.

I don't see it as a bad thing. If your approval rating is around 29%, you're old as a mummy, and you probably didn't want to be Prime Minister in the first place (like he had been saying in years before), it's probably a good idea to resign.

I wish Bush had done the same thing in my own country.
Havoc! Chaos! Anarchy!! As a gaijin, I am going to run amok around the city and loot stuff....
>Havoc! Chaos! Anarchy!! As a gaijin, I am going to run amok around the city and loot stuff....

Already happens every Halloween.

I always thought that Fukuda was a bad choice. He was clearly from the old guard, gray and uninspired. So his failure was almost certain from the start.

But I fear the damage Aso could do far more than the inaction Fukuda represented. Aso has a bad habbit of enraging the very people in Asia that he should be building ties with. He is too much of a right wing nationalist to lead Japan in the right direction. And there is no indication that he has any real and tangible policies to offer as a roadmap for improving Japan's failing systems.

Japan is my second home and I want to see this country and her people prosper and live in security and safety. But to achieve that Japan needs a real leader. Not another LDP party icon.

Japan needs a leader with a vision for improving the nation. Japan needs a leader who is not afraid to tear away the corrupt fat of the LDP and other parties to demand real change. We need someone who will cut out corruption and influence buying and misdirection of public funds. Someone who answers to the people and not to the party or its funding interest groups.

Sadly this leader does not exist. At least not in the public eye. Though the Mayor of Osaka seems to have the right qualities as he has cut wasted spending and done a lot for that city. Maybe in a few years he can replace Aso when Aso inevitably fails to improve aything.

Let's just hope that Aso does not make things terribly worst.
These last few weeks have been a tidal wave of politics. Georgia, Obama and the DNC, and Fukuda...

At least it gives me something to think about in university :)
EH? not in japan too~! Dammnnn.

And i have not heard much about this aso guy...enlighten me? [/failure, sorry]
Nevermind...i got to it. Sorry.
...About this Aso guy...well, he has the family connections, it seems.
But how is he too right-winged for the LDP?
I don't know much about Japanese politics. But all I know is one japanese guy with us was very shocked when he heard the news. Saying that the guy who would will become the new prime minister is extremely conservative who's family owned company had a terrible reputation linked to WW2... Like I said, I don't know a lot, but that didn't sound too good.
Fukuda tried his best and had no support from the lower house. They blocked all the reforms andgood shit he considered trying. So he gave up. Good move for him. He knows better than anyone else how hopeless this entire government is. At his age he is ready for trout fishing and golf.
Aso is going to be trouble. Little guys almost always have that power syndrome. Like Frances little leader. Anyway the Prime Minister has very little actual power in this country. The people behind the scenes run it all. But of course you all knew that :)
Torento. Your friend is correct. Aso is trouble. He is a conservative right winger with very little clue about the 21st century. And no love for other Asian nations. He is the wrong answer for Japan.
I wouldn't express Aso as a conservative at all.
I think that he is quite cool, and may be the best man for the next prime minister. Did you know that Aso is a "otaku", and that he loves Akihabara?
How could an OTAKU be a conservitive, or right-winged??
Fukuda did well in this terrible situation Abe made last year. I will say heartful bye-bye for him.

This is the expected senario.

1. Aso will be the next PM (Noda? Koike? doesn't matter. It ends soon)
2. DPJ will win the next election and get control of lower house.
3. DPJ will go to pieces with in 1 year
DPJ members are staying together only for the purpose of winning the election, and they have no experience of handling the goverment (only ozawa), so after winning, they would start to speak out their individual so many kinds of opinions, and after 6 monthes Japanese citizen starts to find out that DPJ doesn't have no skill to control, and within the following 6 monthes, bye-bye手(パー)
4. I don't knowウッシッシ

Anyway at leaset Japanese economy will stop for 2 years.
Everyone, prepare for thatドル袋
I personally prefer Mr. Fukuda to Mr. Aso a bit more.

Today Aso replied an interviewer like "Thinking of that Fukuda pointed someone who has strong leadership is required now, I think I might be stuitable for the position,". I don't think we citizens love his selfconfident personality in this conservative society besed on comformity.

Nowdays, Japanese government has a lot of issues that they have to fix or face to. Those problems had been overlooked for a long time by their considerless and mekeshift settlements. Fukuda tried hard in the messy situation that we had thought Nobody would want to manage. As we could see his interview of resignation, he had been in a trouble to lead his cabin.

PS, Fukushima Mizuho described Abe's resignation as " Bokuchan nagesute naikaku, ( The cabin thrown away by a kid,)" last year, This time she described it "Watakushi Kokumin Nagesute Naikaku, (The cabin I threw away with the citizen as a package..).
If my memory serves, LDP won landslide victory because of postal privatization not of Abe or FUKUDA. After koizumi's resignation, LDP should have asked for the voices of voters by dissolving the lower house.
I'm actually jealous of a country where leaders actually take responsibility for their actions (or inactions) and resign. Realizing you are not fit to lead and stepping aside in favor of someone who is is not a sign of weakness, but of strength. I wish our leaders in the United States had that kind of courage.

Of course, it doesn't seem like there are any better options to replace him (Fukuda) right now. But maybe when the DPJ wins both houses of parliament next year, things will be better :)
in modern japan, lots of the kaisha and govt. are working really closely... for example kaisha's money for govt's favours but its really low key or turned a blind eye to in many cases. when a case is brought in the open its the politicians that take the hit as opposed the bueacracy who are pretty much running the show.

the politicians in japan have very little power, including the prime minister. put basically they are puppets for the beaucrats. the beaucrats dont change when there is a change in political party or leader in power.

i dont know what has happened to make this prime minister quit.. anyone know what the guy suppposedly did?

no PM of japan stays in power very long, especially recent years

It's high time the whole LDP were dethroned. I had a feeling that Fukuda was supposed to be a "pinch hitter" until someone with a better political calibre would show up and take over. I guess he ran out of gas even before that.

I am seriously hoping that this will be a wakeup call to the Japanese voters - to make them realize that they can't rely upon the LDP anymore, and that time has come for a real change.
I may live in the U.S but, from what I can tell. Between his comments on the "Super-free" club incident, the bill to provide oil to U.S. ships and the censure motion. I think it was wise to quit. Let's hope unlike Shinzo Abe and Fukuda. The next PM of Japan isn't a screw-up.
I probably think both Abe and Fukuda felt too responsible for J gov.
It means they were too sincere and felt too much pressure.

I personally wouldn't feel comfortable with Candidate Aso to be a J prime minister.
First of all he is too short to be. ( Sorry to be rude. )
In my humble opinion, the only suitable candidate for PM is Governor Ishihara.
