Hi guys and gals! Alvin here and I believe this is my first post. I would like to share a touching video (actually it's a telephone conversation) between a radio announcer and a kid... Some of you may have already seen it, but for those who haven't yet, please have a look. It really touches the heart.
(I tried looking back at the previous topics and didn't see it...or maybe I didn't go back too far. If there was a posting before on this, I apologize.)
So he first explains how natural selection
works (aged cow, poor nutrition, weak offspring),
then he needs to compare the situation to
Jesus's crucifixion.
Why doesn't he just stop at the natural selection?
The kid shows deeper wisdom than most of the posts I've seen so far. The kid is explaining his beliefs, why attack him or the video? I don't believe such behavior is appropriate reaction to what a child believes. I really hope you are not working in childhood education.
So I guess the father got the kid to put a bullet
in the cows head and then told him it's god's will
to make him feel better.
It reminds me of some footage I saw of an Indonesian
boy who was holding a machete while his approving
father looked on. Although this time it was a
Christian cow...and it wasn't a cow.
The father never said anything about it being God's will.
In fact, there wasn't even any mention about his father playing a part in what happened.
"this morning I went out and put her down myself"
-firm and decided...though remorseful. He had to kill a cow (he loved...or else why would he
cry and feel really sad?) for reasons that differ from your comparison.
"I was talking to God"
-not the biological father...
"why...she was special"
-pertaining to the cow's breaking her back, giving them no choice but to kill it....again,
different reason as compared to the Indonesian boy in the footage you watched.
"And God said: You know Logan, My Son was special but He died for a purpose..."
-Well, whether you believe it or not, for Logan, God spoke to him.
And Logan never said "it was God's will". He said, "there is a purpose". Not for killing the
cow, but what happened to the cow.
But then again, you're missing the point.
Men feel bitter because of the bad things that happen.
They blame God...even say there is no God (I will not go into a religious debate about this.)
People complain that if there were a God, then He is a cruel God because He allows
suffering. What Logan is saying, yeah, we have suffering, but that doesn't mean God is
enjoying Himself watching us suffer. His Son had to suffer, too.

When it comes to guns there are rule and then there's
common sense. A rule would be that when someone hands
you a gun you drop the magazine and check the breech.
That's basic gun safety.
Common sense is that you don't let children handle guns
unsupervised. It would surprise me if the father wasn't
there keeping a watchful eye. It beggers belief that
the child would decide to euthanase the cow without any
guidance from his parents.

If it beggars belief, why suppose it happened that way? More probable is that his dad had him put the calf down because that's part of what happens on farms, and he has to learn it sooner or later.

> Wow why is it that people believe youtube videos. Anyone who doesn't realise that that was totally scripted and rehearsed as a commercial for christianity is a complete moron!
Don't be absurd, googling for ten seconds shows it was a real call from a real kid (Logan Henderson of Hyannis, Nebraska).
> In australia ... if god talks to you or your hearing voices, its technical grounds for having you locked up for insanity.
Don't be absurd again. It's certainly not.
> a child with a voice that young being able to handle any kind of weapon that could kill a cow is irresponsible to say the least
Don't be absurd a third time. A 13 year-old who can use a rifle is hardly a rarity in rural life. Assuming he was supervised by a licensed adult, such use would be legal in most or all of Australia as well.
Wow, I must have my mind in the gutter... I clicked on this post expecting some conversation or discussion about some kind of "touching." haha Not at all what I had envisioned...
though there was some redeeming entertainment value ^_^
>I just got a text message from Jesus
lol

First part I don't really need to answer. Second
part, I agree...it happens on farms. It has
nothing to do with god. If the call wasn't faked,
I assume daddy was standing there, little jimmy
or whatever his name was, got upset so daddy said
it's god's will...which is a load of BS.

> of course he is a real kid what a stupid come back! it didn't sound like it was a computer generated voice! what i was saying is that it sounds totally and utterly scripted.
That the call/video are now being spread virally is obvious. That either one was made for that purpose, as is your claim, and seems pretty unlikely. Far more likely that the kid has simply had a very religious upbringing (I might say indoctrination), and made the call on his own out of that background.
> But hey if your the kind of person that tries to defend something like this piece of poo then you probably can't tell the difference.
I'm not defending the video. I'm simply an atheist second, and a rationalist first. I try to call nonsense when I see it, even if it happens to be pro-atheist nonsense.
> We have a law that states if you are in detriment of your own safety or may damge your own reputation you can be taken against your consent.
Exactly. A person can be involuntarily committed if they present a threat, and also meet various other requirements. There is no specific relevance to whether they do or do not hear voices, as you suggested. Indeed, someone who hears voices but is not considered a threat could almost certainly not be involuntarily committed.

Could be, could be. Apparently he is home-schooled, as well. Home-schooling and a rigorously religious household make a combination from which it's hard to know what to expect.
How come this Alvin chap wrote this: "Hi guys and gals! Alvin here and I believe this is my first post." Most people can count to 1 (and his believe system seems to be very strong, so if he believes it's #1 , it just IS #1!)
Perhaps he has been "evangelising" so much, that he doesn't even know which site he "viralated" (making my own English as I go along..)
And I don't see how this clip can be touching a heart, even if it was real...
What exactly is the touching part? The fact that he is crying? (I agree with him, having to kill a loved one is a sad business) Or the fact, that he now learned a way to justify any suffering?
If the glorification of martyrs has taught us anything, is, that now all means of warfare can be justified religiously. Even suicidebombing or torturing...
What some people see as cowards killing innocent people, others will justify by calling them brave heroes killling infidels and martyrs, without thinking of wordly gain!
And when some see gathering intellligence for the good of the majority, others see secret torturing in Syria and Cuba and oppression of the minority....
Everybody who thinks he's got all the answers, has only been asked simple questions... All the rest is religion and other theories...
The more I read this "Alvin's" first message, the more I think he has placed this same "message" in different places as well... (i.e. viral advertising)
His message doesn't make any sense at all...
Why would this clip be posted here before? Where did he look to see if it has been posted before (this is not the "religion" section, but the "language" section)?
Just putting this link in the "search engine" would find all the mentionings of this link...
It just doesn't make much sense...
