Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher announced his retirement from Formula One at the post-race conference of the Italian Grand Prix.
Michael said he was "going to retire at the end of this season."
I personally don't like him, but I still feel honoured to have been able to watch him race in such a decisive fashion for so many years. There is no doubt that he has made a significant contribution to the Formula One racing and its worldwide fans.
Thanks for the comment. Like him or not, one's got to admit his exceptional calibre as a race driver. He will have raced in F1 for 15 years at the end of this season, and he will have won the world championship for 7 times - or 8, depending upon the outcomes of the three remaining races this season. That's a pure marvel.
Of course, Ferrari has been providing an excellent package for the last few years. Without it Michael would not have been as successful. It just goes to show how it takes the perfect team of an excellent driver, an excellent car and an excellent pit crew to win the F1 championship.
With Ferrari in such good shape, I'd say there's a good chance that Michael will - although I'd personally like to see Fernando win the title this year before he moves to McLaren. :)
Once Schumi has retired, it will be a while before we have someone like him again.
It must be very strange that we can't see him in Ferrari but Kimi as my image colours of Michael Schumacher is red and Kimi is black.
Hope we can still see Michael after his retirement.
8> We will defintely see him on the Ferrari's pit garage next year, or at least he will be standing near whereever Ross Brawn / Jean Todt will be.
It's kinda sad to see him retiring from Formula1. He's still a living legend although with a lot of controversies involving racing ethics during his carrer in F1.
If Schumi becomes the World Champion this year, Alonso will feel what Kimi felt last season; being a Runner Up just because having a bad luck (such as being pushed back from the starting grid position, having engine's trouble, etc). Alonso will be struggling in the remaining races, especially because Schumi has Massa supporting him from behind to hold Alonso back.
