FANTASMAGORIA -Day and Night
FANTASMAGORIA is the name of a Japanese Progressive rock band, led by the female violinist Miki FUJIMOTO. She moved to United States at age of eleven, graduated from several music schools all around the world. The group aims at playing irregular rhythms with melodic patterns, from classical essence to KING CRIMSON, CURVED AIR, jazz-rock fusion and symphonic music. FANTASMAGORIA's energetic live performances received great acclaim and applause, especially at the 2005 edition of BajaProg, as well as France's ProgSud 2007. "Energetic Live Demo 2004" and "Official Live Bootleg 2005-2007" shows why... The eleven instrumental tracks included in "Day And Night" (Musea, 2009) confirm a great talent a style quite unique, combining lyrical violin (Always in the foreground), acid guitar riffs and sounds, lively keyboards parts, and apowerful rhythm section, including a roaming bass. All this certainly recalls a band who could be FANTASMAGORIA's big brother: OUTER LIMITS. But Miki FUJIMOTO develops a personal approach, with unusual musical structures and rhythms. A powerful but sophisticated music, made by the most promising Japanese Progressive rock band of our times !

FANTASMAGORIA est un groupe japonais de rock Progressif, mené par la violoniste Miki FUJIMOTO. Elle a émigré aux Etats-Unis à l'âge de onze ans, et obtenu des diplômes de plusieurs écoles de musique à travers le monde. Son groupe s'attache à jouer des rythmes irréguliers avec des motifs mélodiques, en partant d'une essence classique pour tendre vers KING CRIMSON, CURVED AIR, le jazz-rock fusion et la musique symphonique. Les prestations scéniques pleines d'énergie de FANTASMAGORIA ont obtenu un grand succès et des compliments, en particulier lors de l'édition 2005 du BajaProg, ainsi que lors du ProgSud en France en 2007. "Energetic Live Demo 2004" et "Official Live Bootleg 2005-2007" en font la preuve... Les onze pièces instrumentales de "Day And Night" (Musea, 2009) confirment un talent peu commun et un style unique fait de violon tumultueux au premier plan, de guitares acides aux riffs parfois heavy, de claviers échevelés, de basse grondante et de batterie puissante... L'ensemble rappelle parfois ce qui pourrait être le grand frère de FANTASMAGORIA: OUTER LIMITS, bien sûr ! Mais Miki FUJIMOTO développe une approche très personnelle, avec des structures musicales inhabituelles et des rythmes sophistiqués parfois proches du jazz-rock. Voilà sans doute le groupe japonais de rock Progressif le plus prometteur de notre temps !

ジャパニーズ・プログレッシヴシーンにおいて、ＫＢＢの壷井彰久氏と双璧を成す女性ヴァイオリニスト藤本美樹女史をメインフロントにG、Key、B、Dsの５人編成による“ファンタスマゴリア”。
2004年に初出の５曲入りデモＣＤ-Ｒを経て、今回がポセイドンからリリースされたバンド実質上のデヴュー作と言えよう（彼等のＨＰ上では２ndとカウントされているが、個人的な見解で１stとさせて頂く事を御了承願いたい）。
全曲ヴォーカルレスながらも、バンドのネーミングからしてカーヴド・エア影響下を連想される向きも多々あるが、それは当たらずとも遠からずと言えよう。むしろ、クラシカルでシンフォニックなヴァイオリンとキーボードのフィーチャー度から音の重厚さと壮麗なイマージュにおいては、本家カーヴド・エアよりも格段に上回っており、加えてヘヴィ＆ハードエッジさが同居した伸びやかに鳴り響くギターと強固なリズム隊との絶妙なアンサンブルも実に申し分無く、改めて藤本を始めとする全メンバーのメロディーメイカーとしての技量とコンポーズ能力の上手さには頭の下がる思いである。
ヴァイオリンを前面的に押し出したプログレッシヴは過去確かに数あれど、ファンタスマゴリアが打ち出した“ありそうで無かった新たなるサウンドスタイル”たるものが本作品では見事に表れてて、ＵＫやＰＦＭ、カンサス、アウターリミッツとは、またひと味・ふた味も違うサウンド・スカルプチュアが堪能出来よう。 後者のティーと共に、ジャパニーズ・プログレッシヴにおけるエポック・メイキングな趣を湛えた近年稀に見る傑作にして、大いなる可能性を秘めた軌跡・収獲と言えよう。
