In addition to the fact that our respective language's grammar patterns are almost and in some cases are totally backward, what are some of the common problems you encounter in studying either Japanese or English?
One major problem I run into is choosing the wrong words for the wrong situations. In English, sometimes I feel like we have a word like "discuss" or (like today talking with Carl) "deploy" that have a lot of uses and meanings and sometimes taking simple words like this and trying to find a Japanese word that is similar becomes tricky because it is situational. Japanese naturally has other words for specific situations.
For some reason any specific examples of a specific word we'd use for one situation and I can think of several Japanese words for the same isn't coming to mind. If you have any experiences or other problems I'd like to hear about them though.
