Thanks for all guys answering me about "eat u up" few days ago. It comes out a question of mine for long time ago. Tho I already know the meaning, I wanna understand more its meaning.
OK, the story is........ I asked my friend sth & suggest an idea to do it together, so he answered me: I may take u up on that. Then, I asked what he does mean & he told me it's sth like: "I buy your idea & may do it with u."
Here the question is....... how much by chance he'd like to take my idea and gonna do with me? I guess it's not a high-rated chance!?!
"I may take you up on that."
is kind of like "Oh that sounds good, maybe I'll do it with you.".
I wouldn't say you have a 100% chance that he'll actually come around, but he is definitely interested in whatever your idea is.
I agree with Anna.
I'm pretty sure that he's interested in your idea and you have a pretty good chance he'll take your idea.
You usually hear that kind of answer when they cannot commit to a yes or no at that moment. Still, they want to show that they are indeed interested in your idea.
I agree with everyone above - it definitely is not a commitment.
Sometimes it is also used as a way of avoiding saying "no", you just delay things for a while and hope it goes away. For example if someone like your boss says: "I've joined a tennis club, we should play sometime." but you really don't want to, and it is a little difficult to say no directly, you might use "I may take you up on that." and hope that he doesn't ask again.
