Last semester, the iDB offered a suite of nanocourses entitled “Visualizing Molecular Processes with Maya”. This suite was designed to teach researchers how to use the 3D software program, Maya, to create an animation that would help them to communicate a biological phenomenon more effectively. Because of the huge success last semester, we have decided to offer it again this Fall semester.

The course will include 8 sessions that include both lecture and lab. Each session will begin with a 1-hour lecture followed by a 2-hour period in computer lab. Once the 8 sessions are completed, we will set up weekly computer labs for the remainder of the semester – during this time you will get one-on-one support developing a visualization of your own project. Each registered ‘student’ will be given a license of Maya to use on their personal home/lab computer to complete assignments. At the end of the semester, we will have a screening so that everyone can share their work.

Students can receive credit for attending this suite of nanocourse. You will receive the equivalent of 4 nanocourses (3 nanocourses equals 1 quarter course). Please note that to receive credit, students must attend all 8 sessions!

Participation in the lab sessions is limited to 8 people. Only 4 spots are left in the course for this semester! Submitting a completed registration form will guarantee your spot in the lab portion of each session. Students who wish to receive credit must complete this registration form. Follow this link ( http://idb.med.harvard.edu/content/category/6/97/27/ < http://idb.med.harvard.edu/content/category/6/97/27/> ) to access the registration form. Alternatively, you can audit the lecture portion of the course and complete online tutorials. We encourage those who are interested to attend the first session of the course on Friday, October 12th from 9-10:30am in Goldenson 122.
