どちらが良いかは誰もがスタートや途中経過が違う以上一概に比較できませんが、「文法を理解した」つもりになって音読を繰り替えし、谷底にはまった人も少なからず見てきました。中国語で言うなら「chi了没?」が「ご飯食べた?」という意味になるのは初級の学習者でも知っています(意味が類推できます)し、会話の中でも積極的に使っている人も多いですが、なぜこれが「ご飯食べた?」という疑問文になるか理屈を説明してと頼むと、TOEICでいう800点900点クラスの子でも、答えられない人一杯いますよ。というか、今まですぐに説明できた人に会ったこと…残念ながらないですね。英語で言うと「Is this a pen?」Dose he have a Japanese book?」クラスの基礎にも関わらず、です。
文章を理解したのなら、その場で音読する(口に出して言ってみる)のは非常に重要なこと。一方で、音読してつまづくという場合、ほとんどが文法構造を読み取れていない(そもそも、その原文に対応する日本語訳が分かっていない OR 原文が日本語に直してさえ理解できない抽象概念である)が原因であったりします。スムーズにいえないのは、発音や音読回数の熟練度だけの問題ではないと思っています
