During the first two weekends in June, June 5-6 and June 12-13, and throughout the year by appointment, East Bay Open Studios connects the public with over 400 artists in 14 cities in the East Bay. Since 1979, this event remains the largest art event in the region and draws an annual audience over 50,000!
UpRooted: A Selection of Work by Root Division Artists
Root Division and Heart are pleased to presents a select group of Root Division resident artists whose work shares a common reflection on their current setting – San Francisco. Whether in motif, subject, light or sensibility, each of these artists addresses the influence of their surroundings. All but two of the artists have come from outside California and embraced the Bay Area as their home, as well as the backdrop of their artistic creations. How is the landscape that we call home shaping these emerging and newly arrived Bay Area artists?
Opening: Wednesday, October 6th, 6-10 pm @ Heart
Exhibition Dates: September 23 – November 15, 2010
Heart
1270 Valencia Street
San Francisco, CA 94110
ABOUT HEART:
Heart is a chaotic wine bar, restaurant and art gallery that serves wine in mason jars, plays hip-hop and blues, and helps you make friends at communal tables. We’re all about enjoying great wine, not bowing down to it. Take your notions of a typical wine bar and throw them out the window.
ABOUT ROOT DIVISION:
Root Division is an arts and arts education non-profit located in the Mission District of San Francisco. Root Division’s mission is to improve appreciation and access to the visual arts by connecting personal inspiration and community participation. We provide subsidized studio space to working artists in exchange for their service in creating shared learning opportunities for the community. Artists develop creatively and professionally by teaching art to underserved youth, leading adult education classes, and producing exhibitions that showcase local emerging artwork. By combining multiple opportunities for creative exchange, Root Division cultivates an artistic ecosystem that enriches life throughout the Bay Area.
Root Division is supported in part by grants from Grants for the Arts: SF Hotel Tax Fund & Voluntary Arts Contribution Fund, The San Francisco Foundation, and the Walter & Elise Haas Fund. The Second Saturday Exhibition Series is sponsored by the Phyllis C. Wattis Foundation, the San Francisco Arts Commission through a Cultural Equity Grant/Organizational Project Grant, and the Zellerbach Family Foundation.
