Funk/Soul Musicに接近していった(DAVID BOWIE)が、Philadelphia Soulの本拠地(Sigma Sounds Studio)に乗り込みRecordingしたSoul色の濃い10枚目の意欲作！現地のMusician、George Harrison/Ronnie Wood等のアルバムで活躍してきたリズム隊のWillie Weeks/Andy Newmark、David Sanborn/Luther Vandross/Funkの息吹を注入したCarlos Alomar参加！Carlos Alomarは、その後長きに渡ってDAVID BOWIEのパートナーを務めた。UKでは(物真似)と酷評されたがUSでは(最高傑作)と絶賛され念願だったUSで成功[第2弾シングル[Fame]はDAVID BOWIEにとって初の全米1位]を収めた！(Across the Universe-The BeatlesのCover)と(Fame)でJohn Lennonと共演したことも話題となった(＊この2曲のみNew YorkでRecording)Funk/Soul Musicの接近も中期の最高傑作/White Funkの名盤と言われる[Station to Station-所有]で終わりを告げ、[BRIAN ENO]らと歴史的傑作と言われる(LOW-所有]を初めにベルリン三部作(Heroes/Lodger)を制作する。
