The band was originally formed in San Francisco when Matt Popieluch and Lewis Pesacov became roommates. They moved to L.A., where they hooked up with Lewis' old high school pal, Ariel Rechtshaid and his friend and drummer Garret Ray. They were soon playing shows and opening for such bands as the Futureheads, Black Mountain and the French Kicks.
