The 28-year-old, Landover, MD native has produced tracks for De La Soul, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Freddie Foxxx, but it wasn’t until the aptly titled The Brown Album, the very first of what has since become a billion homemade remixes of Jay-Z’s The Black Album, that Kev Brown started snatching that sweet buzz. Following in the grand tradition of his hero Pete Rock the project saw Kev Brown exchanging the glitz and gloss of heavy hitters Timbo, Just Blaze and the Neptunes for his own distinctive brand of grimy soul. Kev Brown recently sat down for a second to discuss production, quality, consistency, and the remix project that has made him an overnight success after seven years in the game.
