Holy Shit are from Los Angeles, California where a few years ago Matt Fishbeck after just having disbanded with the Push Kings, met Ariel Pink for the first time and the two of them started making music together. The two inherent pop musicians, having previously gone about recording in different ways, found an immediate balance in their direct approach to making tracks. Fishbeck might have reigned in some of the wildness of Ariel Pink's music while Ariel adds an unmistakable sound quality to these otherwise straightforward songs. Where Ariel Pink is the default front man for his own project, in this band Matt Fishbeck takes care of the lead vocals and guitars leaving Ariel to work out the beats and bass lines. The urgency of the lyrics and melody is positively countered by timelessness of songwriting and an overall catchiness. The rhythms are genuinely contagious; and most of them are created by Ariel's mouth. One can sense an affinity in this music for '80s pop icons as well underground classics from bands like Orange Juice, Felt, or Go Kart Mozart. Their first album "Stranded At Two Harbors" will be released on May 18th. They describe themselves as "Amniotic suntan. Sustained deja-vu. Glue-sticky ocean."
