I read an interesting essay. I want to introduce a part of this essay. They say that Kokinji Katsura is an expert of comic storytelling. The master of Kokinji Katsura was Kosanji Yanagiya. Mr.Katsura had gone to his master's house everyday for practice of comic storytelling.
The time was just after the Second World War, and so it was lack of food. Mr.Katsura looked forward to eating enough rice after practice at the master's house. One day when Mr.Katsura came home after eating heartily, he noticed to forget something at his master's house.
When he came back, the master, his wife and his children had dinner together. They ate sweet potatoes, not rice. Mr.Katsura cried for the master's kindness on the way of return. Mr.Katsura rejected practice, because he thought he would trouble the master's family.
And then his master said,“You are a big fool. I don't teach you comic storytelling. I want to keep comic storytelling for future generations.” His master wanted to say that if human beings would keep something important for future generations, they didn't hesitate even to cut their meal.
Kokinji Katsura and Kosanji Yanagiya are stage names. Comic storytelling is Japanese “Rakugo”. Only one person talks on the stage during about thirty minutes. Stories are usually fiction. They are funny, but warmhearted.
