In the song "Kid A" Radiohead employed the german fairy tale figure the "pied piper of hamelin". The song, according to my understanding and interpretation, is about fear (or fearing what you can see, eg.paranoia) "standing in the shadows at the end of my bed..." and rather cleverly but somewhat obscurely phrased political situations "we've got heads on sticks, and you've got ventriloquists". And also the fact that the song itself is supposedly dedicated to the first clone child, or to the child of the future, shed of it's paternal biological origins, its like a message to the child, a welcoming lullaby, to the future. At the beginning i thought that the piep piper represents the "goverment", but of course as we all know, the pied piper was the one in fact made use of in the fairy tale, so i ask myself then, what does the pied piper then represent in the song? "technology?", "the loss of morality?", or other vague condensending ideas? and the children that followed him out of their house? any ideas anyone?
