Delta Jet Skids Off Runway
(AP) -- A Delta Air Lines jet ran off a runway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Thursday afternoon. No injuries were reported, but an official of the Federal Aviation Administration said the nose wheel of the Boeing 737 was mired in the mud and the runway was closed. The FAA's Christopher White said that with delays already caused by foggy conditions at the airport, the runway closure was leading to a slowdown in arrivals of about an hour and 40 minutes. He said the delays were likely to last for several more hours. The plane had departed for St. Louis but turned around because of mechanical problems and went off the runway after it landed, White said. White was unsure of the nature of the mechanical problems.
