I created this thread for us to share pics other than our school. It may not be new to some of us, but it was my first time in 7 years to go walk in the Yamate area, my heart got full to overflowing with memories. It's for those who lives abroad or too far away to be able to visit offhanded.
This is an apartment where Baltazar brothers(SJC) used to live, isn't it? I went to their party right after I came back to SM from States. Dick and Demir were there at the party, by the way.
It is now open to all, a rent space(rooms) for galleries, meetings, etc., It seems to be acknowledged as a "historical architecture", and I'm so glad they treasure it, for it would be there forever!
I have been in touch with Honesto Baltazar ... but he is famous for
"dotacan" and has done that the last 2 times when we were going to meet with some friends! I think he is in Europe somewhere now.
I may have been at that party ... maybe ... nanka kasukani oboete iru yo.
Oh, no! You weren't there,at least to this particular one. I went with Marjorie, we used to hang around a lot in those days. You were not the kind to be coming to such wicked gatherings, alcohol going around and our friend(you know who) kissing his girlfriend the whole time ! (-^〇^-)
Xmas version light-ups of Marine Tower & Hikawa Maru
I've heard that the management of both Marine Tower
& Hikawa Maru recently went bankrupt, and are obliged
in closing their business, but hope it's not true (T.T)
>It was originally a hospital ship in it's days, wasn't it?
ウンチクTime!!
Yes, it was during the war. But before that, it was an exclusive passenger liner sailing across the Pacific between the US and Japan. Charlie Chaplin sailed to Japan on the Hikawa-maru with Paulette Goddard (his gf at that time and actress in Limelight, I think).
*Info I got when I visited the museum section of the ship some years ago... (^_^;
The first time I've been on the ship was when it was a beer restaurant and my parents went there to drink beer. I was a kid and had Bireley's Orange, of course! (^_^)
Do you know anything about them closing?
What is going to happen to the ship & the tower?
They say it's useless being obscured by the
buildings, especially the Land Mark Tower !
I didn't know the two are going to close down!
According to this, they will be closed on Dec. 25, with the ship turned over to NIppon Yusen and Tower kept by the city of Yokohama!
No plans to scrap them yet.
