ビートルズ時代にアルバム『Abbey Road』Ｂ面で発表したメドレー曲のうちの１曲。オリジナルでは、「Golden Slumbers」と「The End」とのメドレーになっている。メロディーと歌詞の一部は、同じくアルバム『Abbey Road』に収録されている曲「You Never Give Me Your Money」から引用されている。
1989〜90年のワールドツアー「ゲットバック・ツアー」の時は、コンサートのアンコールの最後として、オリジナルに忠実にメドレー「Golden Slumbers」「Carry That Weight」「The End」３曲を演奏した。ポールは前２曲ではキーボードを、最後の１曲では途中でギターに持ち替えて演奏した。
2002〜03年のワールドツアーの時は、「You Never Give Me Your Money」と「Carry That Weight」をミックスさせて、ポールが「マジック・ピアノ」と呼んでいるエレクトリック・ピアノの弾き語りで少しアレンジを変えて、この曲を披露した。発売されたアルバム『Back In The U.S.』,『Back In The World』の曲名クレジットでは、２曲のミックスであるにも関わらず「Carry That Weight」と１曲しかクレジットされていない。
このツアーで演奏した際は、「You Never Give Me Your Money」の歌詞の一部を変えて、「This is a fever I don’t know the words but I don’t think I’m even gonna bother to try and learn them before the end of the tour.」（熱気で歌詞を忘れてしまったけど、ツアーの終わりまでには何とか歌詞を思い出してみせるよ。）と歌っている。ツアーの終盤であった2002年11月18日大阪公演や、2003年5月24日モスクワ公演、2003年6月1日リバプール公演では、オリジナル通りの歌詞で歌った。
