CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: One of the most accomplished athletes to ever compete in the sport, White - also known as “The Flying Tomato” - won the halfpipe gold medal in the 2006 Torino Olympics, and he seems primed to defend that title. White finished first in four of five Grand Prix qualifying events, including a near-perfect 49.50 score in the last event leading up to the Vancouver games. He also may have a new trick to debut - the double McTwist 1260, which he broke out during a final Grand Prix practice in Park City, Utah. White is a four-time gold medalist in the superpipe competition and a five-time gold medalist in slopestyle at the Winter X Games. In 2007, he became the first person to win a gold medal at both the Summer and Winter X Games when he finished first in the skateboarding “vert” competition. White is a two-time winner of the Most Outstanding Athlete award at the Winter X Games, a three-time champion at the Winter Dew Tour and a three-time ESPY award winner. The two-sport athlete has his own video game, “Shaun White Snowboarding.” White, who’s been snowboarding professionally since he was 9, was born with a congenital heart defect, for which he endured two open-heart operations.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
Lago finished in second place for the second time in as many days in the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix on Jan. 23 in Park City, Utah, and that result was good enough to qualify him for the halfpipe team behind Shaun White and longtime friend Louie Vito. Lago has been riding since 1996 and made his mark on the international scene in 2004, when he became the world’s last quarterpipe champion (the event was canceled after that season). Lago earned attention two years later at the 2006 Winter X Games, when he finished third in the halfpipe competition. He returned to the 2009 Winter X Games and finished second in the slopestyle category. Lago was honored at the 2007 “30 Under 30 Awards,” which recognizes 30 outstanding young leaders from film, fashion, music, politics and sports. Lago is also a member of the “Frends” Crew - intentionally spelled without the “I” - consisting of fellow snowboarders Mason Aguirre, Kevin Pearce, Danny Davis, Keir Dillon and Jack and Luke Mitrani.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
Vito finished third in halfpipe qualifying behind Shaun White and Scotty Lago, and that result was good enough for him to earn his first spot on the Olympic team. Born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, and with a brief stop in Vermont prior to moving to Utah, Vito has been on the snowboarding scene since winning gold in the Burton Australian Open in 2005. He turned pro that year, when he made his X Games debut and finished fifth in the men’s superpipe competition. In 2008, Vito won the halfpipe competition at the Chevy U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix, a title he defended in 2009. He finished second behind White in the halfpipe portion of the December U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix, and was again behind White in a January Grand Prix event that all but sealed his spot in Vancouver. He’s best known for his technical riding style and back-to-back 1080s, but may have a different claim to fame to a certain audience. Though he'll get plenty of exposure in Vancouver, Vito first became a fixture on American television in the fall, when he appeared on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Vito and partner Cheslie Hightower were the eighth contestants eliminated.

Aono won’t even be 20 by the time the Vancouver Games take place, but he could be the top international threat in the U.S.-dominated halfpipe event. The Americans barely missed a medal sweep in 2006 in Turin after achieving the feat in 2002 in Salt Lake City, but the face of an emerging Japanese contingent will certainly have his eyes on a podium spot on the heels of his recent breakthrough. Aono has won the overall World Cup title in the halfpipe each of the last two winters, totaling six gold medals and three silvers in World Cup events already in his young career. (He finished second last February at Cypress Mountain, the Vancouver Olympics venue.) He also took home the 2009 world championship title not far from his home country in Korea. Most American halfpipe riders don’t often compete on the World Cup circuit, but Aono has proven he can match up against them, taking a silver medal in SuperPipe at the 2008 Winter X Games, finishing behind only superstar Shaun White. He’ll likely have to go through White if he hopes to take the top spot in Vancouver.

Racing since he was 10, Crepel, the son of a ski instructor, was the runner-up in the Youth Snowboarding World Championships by age 15. He first made a major splash on the international snowboarding scene in 2005, when he won the Crystal Globe trophy and became the first-ever French winner of a halfpipe world title at a Korean World Cup event. Crepel figured to have a good chance to medal at the 2006 Turin Olympics, but finished a disappointing 17th. Later that same year, however, he became the first Ticket to Ride World Snowboard Tour champion. Crepel has made 17 career World Cup starts and has finished on the podium seven times. He's also produced four wins, including a February 2009 event in Bardonecchia, Italy - the same site of the Turin games. During Crepel's 2007 World Championships win in Arosa, Switzerland, he became the first person to land a switch backside 12 in a big air competition.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
The young Bretz is still relatively under the radar in an event that features the star power of countryman Shaun White, but he could be primed for a major breakout after earning a surprising spot on the U.S. Olympic team. Injuries to Kevin Pearce and Danny Davis opened the door for other halfpipe riders, and Bretz took advantage by finishing in the top six in four of the five qualifying events. In the final two qualifiers at the Grand Prix in Park City, Utah, Bretz landed a pair of double corks, helping him finish third and fourth. That put him in a three-way tie in the overall standings with J.J. Thomas and Luke Mitrani, but the team selected Bretz to go to Vancouver. Although he's only 19, Bretz already boasts a fearless reputation within the snowboarding world and a trio of podium finishes in World Cup events, including his first-ever win in Stoneham, Quebec, in March 2008.
