¡Ú4¡Û¥×¥ì¥¼¥ó¥Æ¡¼¥·¥ç¥ó¤ÎÆâÍÆ In the middle of Edo period, a type of paintings called UKIYOE became popular. UKIYOE were portraits of actors, sumo wrestlers, courtesan and the like. They are produced, for the most part, as woodblock prints. There are several famous UKIYOE writers such as ANDO HIROSHIGE and KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI. Some UKIYOE include Mt. Fuji. Fuji was designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site this year and Japanese food was designated as a World Cultural Heritage. UKIYOE is famous not only Japan but also in overseas. Coincidently, British Museum holds UKIYOE exhibition during this season. In the past during the Edo era, the Tokugawa Bakufu, feudal gavernment was seated for over 200 years. Yoking past and future, Tokyo dazzles with the traditional culture and passion for everything new. For old Tokyo, I recommend Asakusa, the Imperial Palace and Rhogoku. For modern Tokyo, I recommend Shibuya, Harajuku, and Akihabara. I am a Sumo fan, so I'm very happy to hear that now Ryogoku is a mecca for foreign visiters. They can feel Edo atmosphere in Sumo amphitheater and Edo-Tokyo museum. I hope foreign visiters will enjoy old Tokyo and moderen Tokyo.
