Historically, English originated from Great Britain. Now, English is spoken by many people in the world. There are over 80 countries using English. And English as common language is spreading day by day.
What do you think about English? Please discuss each other.
I agree that the English language has a very rich historical background originating from Great Britain. Because of the widespread of British Empire centuries ago, many countries has adopted the use of their conqueror's (British) native language. These countries include North America (especially on the East Coast like Boston, MA & New England), Africa, Australia & India.
When the United States became one of the "superpower" countries in the world, the widespread use of the English language has covered more countries.
Now English is an essential (or important) part of everyday communication, especially between two countries. I am sure that many of us has the need to speak and understand the English language because of work, studying or other personal needs.
PS
I admire the Japanese people that I know for their determination in studying the English language.
I agree what Janice says. I think the United States became one of the most strongest countries in the world, too. And it have reference to World War ?, Industrial Revolution and Age of Geographical Discovery.
I studay English for my work. For me today, English is hard. I have thought I wish Japanese spreads all over the world.
(However, even if Japanese use Japanese Language each other, it causes misunderstanding.┐(´-`)┌ )
But the reality is not so. I need to do an effort.
PS
By the way, At heart, I am also interested in French. Because French is used in lyrics or title of my favourite musician. I wanted to know it. So I studied French in university thought it was unnecessary for my curriculum. I passed the level 5 French Language Proficiency test. (Test level is 5 -> 4 -> ・・・ -> 1) But I could not pass the level 4. (´・ω・`)Oh, my god. Hahaha.
Long ago, I heard following.
Japanese thinks "Dog" or "Cat" is easy word, however squirrel is hard. But please think about it. Is the word hard for American children? Answer will be "No". You use the word well, or not.
