Hello folks,

Hope things are going well with you all…

Now, I’ve a quiz for you today!! Are you excited???

Well, as part of my privileges as a senior secondary teacher, I can access some of the specific information as to assessments. Today’s catch is one of the standardized tests for the year 12 UAI (University Admission Index) score. Now, this was used in the past, and therefore, I believe I can disclose some of the questions to a small group of people such as our community.

You can see the reading passage in the next comment box and the set of questions in the following box. This unit is one of 26 units and all these are supposed to be completed within two and a half hours. This means you need to finish one unit within 5 minutes. Year 12 students normally spend one to two minutes to read slowly the passage and questions set so that they can grasp the general idea, then perhaps go back to the text again to find the exact spot where a potential answer for each question is embedded.

If you find this amusing, then I can put up another one for you again later, so let me know.
Leave some comments or questions, please. I’ll put the answers up in here in 4 weeks time so that there’ll be plenty of time for all the members to try this.

Okay then, guys… Have fun!

UNIT 19

Representative or parliamentary government such as we have in Australia has been described as a poor system,, but the same commentator went on to describe it as better than any of the alternatives. This comment is quite a good joke, but we should not see the issue as a joke, and perhaps we should not be dismissive and cynical about our form of governments. Those who do not see the value of politics are likely to have their interests ignored by the political process.

In many respects we have a good system of government. We have a peaceful society that gives each of us a great deal of personal freedom. And as a whole we can change a government we are unhappy with. These are privileges that most of the world would envy.

Whether we agree with this or that action of a particular government, we should recognize that the system as a whole is a remarkable achievement in harmonious co-operation. We have all sorts of facilities and services that we take for granted supplied by an efficient system of government. All of these facilities and services are supported by a taxation system that requires the richer to contribute more than the poorer, and we have many policies that positively discriminate in favour of the poor and disadvantaged.
We might not do as much as we can, but we do a great deal to support the less fortunate, the less capable and even the undeserving who can be said to cause their own problems.

We should value our opportunity to participate in a peaceful political process, and we should e concerned if some of our fellow citizens do not recognize the great benefits we enjoy. The graffiti slogan: ‘Don’t vote, it only encourages them’ is a witty joke, but is expresses a kind of cynicism that we should be concerned about.
