To those concerned people who wrote to me about Maxwell, the good news is that the alumni (many of whom are now working at major financial institutions or are in universities such as Harvard or Stanford) are mobilizing and the administrator of Nancy Campbell school is coming to meet with the Maxwell administration and a business plan is being prepared. Others are asking what the financial needs are, including and are calling on the alumni to be of assistance.
There's still hope!
Best,
Sandra Fotos (parent of two alumni)
From a Maxwell representative on Facebook:
There is some hope that Maxwell can continue if a group can present an extremely "sound" business plan and proposal to the NSA. The NSA also indicated that they would give consideration to providing the facillities rent free initially, allowing the new structure to develop and grow. There is already a group of business people preparing a proposal, led by Maxwell supporter Mark Granfar. His group is working with Mr. Gordon Naylor who is the administrator at Nancy Campbell School in Ontario and he has been a very successful recruiter. I am hoping to meet with Mark Granfar in the next few days to learn more. Maxwell needs recruitment of new students, whether in the form of a dual tracking program which would include a high quality ESL program along with the current academic program or perhaps a solid First Nations program. The ideal enrollment number would be 200 students but a realistic goal for next September might be 175 students.
Description: I hardly know how to start this message. Some of you may have already heard and others may be hearing it for the first time. A letter was sent to Maxwell from the National Spiritual Assembly of Canada today with the final decision to close Maxwell after almost 20 years. I had heard rumors that this may happen, but I am still shocked that it happened so soon. The Maxwell community has been an extended family for a lot of us and the closing of the school is the closing of the gathering place of our family. The graduation this year may be the last year we will have to reunite as a group in the ways we have joyously done in the past to celebrate the time we were able to share together and the lifelong connections we made - both with staff and students.
This is the primary reason I am sending this message out. A few of us were discussing organizing a huge reunion to take place this June not only for the 10 year class but for all of us. Planning for this reunion is underway and I am inviting all of you to come together and celebrate the years we had at Maxwell, to celebrate our international family in a way we may not be able to again, and to walk the halls of Maxwell one last time. If you have any suggestions for us about how you would like to remember Maxwell or how we can make this reunion a hit, please contact me by replying to this message or contact Vesta Rohani - also through facebook.
National Spiritual Assembly of Canada has finally come to the conclusion that Maxwell will be closed, meaning this year's graduation as the last grad for Maxwell.
