ゲーム(WoW)で英語・英会話コミュの種族・集団

WoWには様々な集団を示す単語が使われていますので、整理してCobuildで解明したいと思います。

WoWの世界では、以下の様に10もの種族(race)が存在しています。
Orc、Tauren、Troll、Undead、Blood Elf、Human、Night Elf、Dwarf、Gnome、Draenei

raceという単語は、「競争」という意味しか知らなかった私には驚きでした。

A race is one of the major groups which human beings can be divided into according to their physical features, such as the colour of their skin.

種族間同士は協力関係にあったり、敵対関係にあったりと様々です。しかし同じ種族の中にあっても、住む地域に応じて小さな小集団(部族/一族)を形成し、群れを成して生活することが多いものです。この小集団を指す単語として、wowではtribe/clan/troopが使われています。
こういう小集団の振る舞いはリーダの思想に大きく左右され、悪いものは人々を困らせるため、クエストなどで討伐対象となっています。

tribe
Tribe is sometimes used to refer to a group of people of the same race, language, and customs, especially in a developing country. Some people disapprove of this use.

clan
A clan is a group which consists of families that are related to each other.

troop
Troops are soldiers, especially when they are in a large organized group doing a particular task.　<=軍隊用語
A troop of people or animals is a group of them.
