I have a question that I hope you can help me answer
My friends and I often go to Izakaya when we meet up over the weekends
You know that appetizer (otoshi) they give you? Why do they give it to you What is its purpose
We usually never eat it, and so we put it at the edge of the table, but they never take it away. It just makes the table cluttered (too many glasses and plates!)
In many resturants and bars in the States they will give you bread or peanuts, but these are free, not something you have to pay for....
Interesting question. I didn't know the meaning of otoshi then just looked it up.
Wikipedia says it is to kill time until foods you ordered are served.
And its always prepared and usually made of ingredients left the previous night.
