Subject: Polar Star(in today's calss)

I must appologize class mates that my explanation on subect was beside
off the point.
What I wanted to comment is that Japanese business men tend to
discuss with higher position executives, such as president or vice president
who do not move to anywhere and stay at the same position.
We call such executives "Polar Star" (北極星)which do not move and
stay at the same position every time.
In the business field, the women are at weaker position and are seemed
to be placed to other positions.
There might be cases that women leave the company with reason of marriage
and/or pregnancy.
Therefore women's status in the business field in Japan does not become
firm.
American business man/woman has a contract with company on a year
basis.
They renew the contract every year, and they can have a chance to
appeal theirselves to the company for promotion.
However Japanese business man/woman are hired by company for
long term (but until age of 60) that makes employee unpositive
for their promotion.

The story becomes long, again.
I would like my class mates could see and understand above what I meant.

Thank you for your attention

I thought Eddie's observations about management philosophy in Japan was interesting. Thanks, Eddie, for sharing your excellent perspective.

It reminded me of Chinese philosophy. The Analects of Confucius (論語) includes the following passage (II:1):
The Master said, "The rule of virtue can be compared to the Pole Star which commands the homage of the multitude of stars simply by remaining in its place."
子曰:「為政以徳、譬如北辰、居其所而眾星共之。」
子の曰く、政を為すに徳を以てすれば、譬えば北辰の其の所に居て衆星のこれに共(むか)うがごとし。

There are numerous examples of the ruler being compared to the north star, not only in Confucian texts. The idea that the ruler does nothing is expressed strongly through the Daoist concept of wuwei 無為. The same idea is seen in the Legalist 韓非子. This fits with the idea that the ruler should be in the north and face south.
