A curiosity from a koren guy.. all the issues about korea in japan.. i'm pretty sure Yon sama is very famous in the media from korea but i think it's a bit exaggerated somehow... or other stuff about korea.. let's talk about it.
It's no wonder you think like that.
There are a number of people who agree with you in japan.
You know a book called " iya hanryu" (hate Korean boom)?
It critisized this strangily heated Korean boom in many aspects such as in history so on.
I haven't read that, but I'm not really up to buy...
The point of view in this book seems too much to lean to negative side... for me.
On the other hand, as I told you before, the ticket of Yong sama's talk show was sold by $40,000 (@_@;
There are also heaps of ppl who is positive to receive Korean culture...
We Japanese are a bit at a loss to get used to be exposed by the new culture.
What we need is just TIME.
Everything'd be alright as time goes on.
I thought, at the beginning, Yon-sama phenomenon was
quintessential case of Japanese consumption culture. I mean Japanese people love to know the new and unique things, and consume them for a while, but ending up replacing them to other new culture soon...
However, now the time, not only Yon-sama but other cute Korean actors together with the Korean films became so popular among East Asian countries, of course including Japan, which grew to be so to say Han-ryu movement.
Maybe safe to say that it shows Korean entertainment's real capability and qualification to survive in the competing entertainment world...
well...at least for the asian entertainment world, Hanryu seems to be nice. As a western person, I find the TV dramas quite silly. Well, I must admit I do not always understand what they say, but the pictures look already very unnatural, exaggerated and a bit fake....just the hanboks look very nice.
But at least for the male actors: they are cute!!! and I personally find them much cuter than the average japanese guys I have seen in Kansai...(sorry guys :-))) so that might be the reason why they are so popular.
And yong sama...I dunno...he is a bit soft, isn't he?
