Sorry, I cannot speak English well. I know basic English.
I want to make progress in English, so I was looking for a community that I was able to talk about classical music in English. This community suit my purpose.
Of course, I like piano works. But may we talk about classical music generally？
I love a Romanian pianist, Dinu Lipatti. I love his pianism with a sense of painful longing when I think about him.

You must be the expert of piano music, mustn’t you? As far as I know, Dinu Lipatti was one of the greatest pianists in the 20th century, but unfortunately, his career was tragically cut short by his death from Hodgkin's disease. To me, the name of Dinu Lipatti brings Alfred Cortot to remembrance. Anyway, both of them were historic musicians of the 20th century.

Although I knew his name, I have rarely had an opportunity to listen to his performance in my life, unfortunately. I am happy if you tell us how to become a big fun of him because I am really curious about it. Additionally, your message encourages me to start a new topic of “The Great Pianists”. I am an expert of piano music? No, no, though I majored in fine arts at the college, I did not major in music. I had played the piano before and I prepared to enter the music department of a certain college. But because I was not a good pianist, I changed my course.
You know about Dinu Lipatti well. If I write about Lipatti, it is necessary to write about Alfred Cortot. When Lipatti took second place at the 1934 Vienna International Piano Competition, Cortot who was the judge protested, and he resigned the judge. Lipatti studied in Paris under Cortot.

I learned Lipatti from one of Meiko Miyazawa's books.

これでいいのかなあ、と悩んでいたわたしを慰めてくれたのが、ライブラリーで聴くリパッティのレコードだったの。毎日、むさぼるように聴いた。そして、ハッと目が覚めた。品性と優雅さ、美しさと彩り・・・・・・これだって。

Bach, Mozart, Scarlatti, Chopin, Schumann, Schubert, Liszt, Ravel and Enescu. His performances are gems of the art.
I cannot forget his last concert in Besancon. To keep his promise with audiences, he played the piano in this concert though he was seriously ill. He died since this concert after two months. I have an eight-piece set of CDs titled"The Art of DINU LIPATTI." Probably, it is not sold now. The performance was being recorded in it. His CDs are sold separately now. Aha! How could I not know that!! I see French words written everywhere in Canada but still my children have better knowledge of French language than I do...

By the way, why do you think Paris has been the Mecca for arts? I know you want to talk about mainly in classic music but if you have any ideas, please let me know.

Oh, you know Meiko Miyazawa, don’t you? Actually, I took her lesson once when I was seven years old. I learned a sonata of Mozart from her at that time. I wonder whether she is a successful pianist on not, but definitely a great piano teacher, from my observations so far. In addition to Meiko Miyazawa, I learned the piano from several famous pianists including a Russian pianist, but finally I did not choose the music course as same as you. Meanwhile, I plan to restart my piano performance actively in the future when I have enough time.

Hi, Mari. As my father is a professor of French in a university, I have been familiar with cultures and arts of France since I was a child. Indeed, France is one my most favorite countries in the world. If they spoke English, I would live in France at this time, surely. When I stayed in France, mainly Paris for a while, I felt that the country had a lot of good conditions to develop arts like beautiful landscapes, gorgeous atmosphere, delicious food, etc….. Especially, as my most favorite place isCôté d'Azur, many great artists like Marc Chagall, Henri Matisse, Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh and Pablo Picasso also loved the place and I completely agree with their feelings. Anyway, so impressed by wonderful scenery, good and warm weather, and delicious food was I. To me, Côté d'Azur seems like an earthy paradise. I suppose this kind of atmosphere might positively affect the healthy development of arts in France.

I want to add people's history since the French Revolution though Dr. Ryoma has already answered with a wonderful way of speaking about it. I love an impressionist painter, Berthe Morisot. She is a special person for me.

オーリャ: It’s nice to hear from you! You know what, what a coincidence, ‘cause I just talked about Otaru with somebody I know today.

And ever since then, my mind had been filled with the good memory I had made in Hokkaido. The Otaru Canal and the musical box store are always my favorite places to stroll around whenever I visit my relatives in Hokkaido.

Otaru is such a unique looking city to me; a very modern canal serenly flowing through Meiji-Taisyo style warehouses and greek style buildings. I like the subtle balance of different cultures being integrated into one-well distinguished historical harbor besides Hakodate.

I treasures post cards themed "The 4 seasons in Otaru", which directly inspired me to take photoes of "Time" rather than just scenes. I hope you got some nice photoes from Otaru! (I am sorry if you were solely on business.)

Awesome!! . When you find your target to utilize your artistic ability, you feel an urge to put the image together into your work, no matter how long it takes, right? Sounds like an artist to me, オーリャ! Just like music composers!

I have just purchased French-English dictionary for my son who's been learning French as his second language at school. As you may know, French is an official language in Canada so I should be learning French too. Are you planning to teach me French sometime!?

True. Dr.Ryoma has already nailed his theory but what you are saying is also interesting -people's history. That reminded me that many classical music composers from that time also were affected by the French Revolution, right? People's history indeed; emotin, ambiton and passion, must have been the key factor of generating ideas of arts, as well as the exceptionally beautiful mother nature that has been cradling all of the above!! Clever answers, guys!

An impressionist, Monet, is my favorite artist. His scenery paintings have calming ingredients in them. However, if I were an artist, I would like to draw like Van Gogh. His paintings after 1886 appeal to me. You know that his touch of little tiny strips of colors coordinated in his eccentric patterns. I really like that.

(let's get back to our main topic) I am into 4 songs,Schumann/Liszt(was'it) lately. How about you guys?

Craft shops of glasswork are also good.
Otaru is famous for proletarian novelist, Takiji Kobayashi. There was an essay contest about his novel "Crab-Canning Boat."
