AC360 BLOG (Prison population surges)

I felt so sorry for those Iraqi juvenile detainees. They are not the ones who are to blame. They had been educated to be insurgents. To them, trying to attack wardens using weapons might be a matter of course. And now, they are being brainwashed again by American people. They do need decent education and this is certainly one step toward the right direction. However as Anderson said at the end of this segment, they'll have no hope after they are released from custody. No jobs, no decent social system, no safe community. And they (we? you?) want to withdraw our troop from Iraq? Considering the dangerous situation there, it is too irresponsible to say this, but we cannot do flee from the country that unless citizens there can live decent lives.

After the video was over, Anderson stood still for 7~8 seconds, which was way too long and was somewhat awkward. However this explains how deeply Anderson was sympathized with these detainees.

I liked the part in which Anderosn mentioned his trip to Afghanistan. The place sounds not so dangerous any more as Iraq sounds even more dangerous. He is always caring for soldiers who are serving in Afghanistan.

Anderson asked what the Minister thinks about American who are serving in Iraq. The words Anderson brought from Al-Maliki sounds so precious.

07/09/13 Live from Iraq 4

I was curious about this heated discussion. Iraq was is not an America-led war. It is a war for American people, not Iraqi people. Presidents said that stable Iraq is essential for peaceful America, I don't remember exactly what he said, but something like this. This sounded so disturbing to me. They started this war and have been creating a lot of casualties, like we've seen later in Michael Ware's report. Then they want to stop this war for themselves?

Another thing that I found disgusting was they were constantly talking about their political situation. "In order to win the election, the president needed to state...." What's this war for? The president looks dumber and dumber (Is this the right word??) as the speech went on.

Again, Anderson & Michael are in the right place in the right moment.
07/09/17 O.J. Simpson

Frankly, all I learned from this show is that Anderson is taking a shower after this hour!
He still looks good though!
He always looks great in his suit.
07/09/18 Theraflu

I've never tried Theraflu and I don't even know if it is available in Japan. But I can conclude that if taken too much, you might become forgetful, feel like falling out of a trampoline onto the ground. I am wondering if he might caught a cold after "the" shower after Monday's show.
Anderson said, "People are fed up with all the OJ coverage, but still people are watching." As far as AC360 is concerned, I guess many people do watch it only to watch Anderson! No matter what stories they cover, we will watch!
I was so shocked to see the image of two teenage boys who would be executed. That is the reality, not the fake one! That thought made me so sick. I was watching a Japanese TV news program, where they covered a little bit about Ahmadinejad's visit to NY. However only a few minutes was allotted for his speech. One of the line they showed us was about nonexistence of homosexuality, then audience laughted. At least the news anchor said that was not at all a cheerful laughter, but that's all. I'm so proud I'd watched CNN and that I knew more than that. I have to learn more and more watching this great show!
07/09/25 I'm annoyed!

I have several complaints tonight!

What were all the screen that appears before commercial breakes? That's so annoying to me! We'd rather see Anderson in various camera angles. I wrote about this yesterday, but at that time, that happened only once. But it seems they keep on showing those annoying "Don't touch something something screens? (I don't even bother to remember what it said!) As I do this picture capture thing, Anderson sitting all the time does not excite me!

To sooth myself, I'd bedder see beaudiful Anderson picturesハート達(複数ハート)
07/09/27 Mr. Nagai

A Japanese journalist was killed in Myanmar yesterday, which was a big news here. It was really disturbing to see this picture, but I did it anyway. (I heard they also aired a movie of this scene, which I'll never be able to watch.)

Anderson mentioned him in the show. As an anchor, he was killing his emotion trying to be succinct. What he said was "He was still taking pictures." And twice. How he said, how he looked reflected his emotion and we didn't need more time and more words to report on this journalist.

He often said "Somebody must go to such places as nobody wants to go. And I will." He was on the foot of the Hussein statue in Iraq when it was broken down. He was holding a camera alone, speaking to his camera. What a journalist.

When I heard of this news, I remembered an article Anderson wrote on saving journalists. I completely forgot where and when I read that. I thought I'd saved the link to my favorite lists but I cannot find it any more. Is there anybody who has the link? The writing was awesome and I want to read it again.

07/09/28 3 y/o sexually assaulted

Before the show, I had checked CNN website and seen an assaulted girl's picture there. I felt really sick to read that. At that time, he was thought to be 4 or 5 years when that video was taken. I am teaching the piano to young children. One of them is 4 years old. She is so adorable, immaculate, innocent, obedient and honest. I cannot imagine her being sexually assaulted.

Then AC360 started, and they'd decided to hide the girl's face, which I think is a good decision. A lot more details had come to light and the girl was 3 years old. That's horrible! I cannot imagine how they can assault such young girls.

In Japan, we rarely hear about very young victims of sex-related crime. Very few people know the facts that even that young girl can be a victim. The first time I knew about it was when Anderson went to Congo last year. I was shocked. Now I am even more shocked to know that can happen in our society as well.

I recently read that only Japan and some few other developed countries allow people to have lurid pictures of young children for their own pleasure. This eventually result in sex crime. Thus other countries insist we prohibit possessing those kinds of pictures for any purpose.
07/10/01 Good Girl Gone Bad

I don't know how people see Britney. From my perspective, she was ruined by all the people surrounding her. She used to be an ambitious girl trying to succeed. The world of entertainment abounds in temptations and she took several wrong baits. It must be hard to success, but even harder to keep common sense.
07/10/02 Burma? Myanmar?

I noticed this when Anderson first started reporting about this country. He always calls it "Burma" not "Myanmar." I've always thought that he does not want to call the country "Myanmar," which was named by junta.

However, I wondered tonight if it is ok for a individual, a very influential individual, to choose how to call it. Officially, the county's name is "Myanmar" now. And Wikipedia (Japanese) says that it is widely called Myanmar but some publishers who doesn't accept its millitary government still call Burma. However, so far, I have never heard the name Burma since the beginning of the demonstration.

07/10/03 Babies taken away from Motheres

Baby adoption, or rather baby hunting, is a heart-breaking problem. The other night, they told us a story of a mother taken away two of her children. At that time, she deserved that. However, they showed images of devastated parents. No matter how bad a mother behave, how one might feel when taken one's baby should be the same.
07/10/04 Kawaii

Just recently, a new comer to my blog learned the word Kawaii.
They showed us a lot of scenes they haven't shown us so far. Is it all right to see so many things? I guess it's OK because they still have even more!
07/10/13

Anderson was listening to the story of a journalist who tried living biblically. That was a fascinating story. I am not a religious person and I cannot imagine leading a life strictly decided what to do and not to do by one religion.
07/10/15 Anderstands! (No recap!)

I said a couple of times that I was missing Anderstands! And he did it tonight! I never imagined how excited I can become just to see Anderson stand in front of those screens! This sounds really stupid and I thought twice, but I sent to AC360 feedback that seeing Anderson standing is better than seeing him sitting all through the show.
07/10/19 Commentary

I couldn't get what the problem was. Did what Copperfield was alleged to have done really happen? That may be an illusion as well as all the other captivating performances. Oh, he is under the investigation, which is not an illusion. He was one of the celebrities that got paid most in 05. But he disappeared from the list the following year. Was that also illusion?

07/10/22 the U.S. in Peril

All those stories they covered were somewhat concerned about climate change. All that fire will produce so much amount of CO2, which might be worse than deforestation. In order to extinguish fire, a lot of water is needed. However, there is a city where people are suffering from severe drought. You might call last night's program the U.S. in Peril. I felt a tightening in my chest when I saw a reporter reporting his own house burning down. I really hope for their quick recovery and decent government operation afterwards.
