Hi, everyone! I am a 22-yr old Japanese lad who has lived most of his life abroad. Cuz of that, I am more comfortable with my English than Japanese. I built this community cuz I thought there should be one where people can discuss films in English.
Fave film ever: Run Lola Run Fave director: James Cameron, John Carpenter, Brian DePalma, Michel Gondry Fave film theme tune: Rocky
hi im a korean guy studying creative writing in New York. i speak a bit of japanese too, but when it comes to writing i feel more comfortable with eng. well, writing is my major after all, so.
i like indie movies, B-movies, or whatever that's not really poppular. my favorite movie of this year is Ping Pong, the 2002 jpn movie, which premiered in NY 2 months ago.
Hi, I'm Japanese living in Australia.
I like all sorts of movies and love many actors, but my all time hero is Clint Eastwood.
Apart from his movies, these are some of my favorites -
Godfather,Heat,Taxi driver,Scar face,Kill Bill,Gladiator...
I love mainstream films with a hidden message (wether the film intended it or not)...
I also like those mainstream films that got forgotten, everyone missed, or just generally never got promoted very much...Hollywood can actually make some really good stuff if you search it out : )
Fave film ever : changes every week but maybe THEY LIVE
Fave Director : Robert Altman maybe...
Fave Film Tune : Curtis Mayfield, "Pusherman" from SUPERFLY - great tune, and very brave to contradict the main character's motives with the theme of his song...
Firstly, thank indie hunk for making this community.
I can't not think of the best film I've ever seen cos there are lots but
>indie hunk
I like Michel Gondry too especially his music video stuff is my favourite.
>mickey
I think Taxi drive is great too. I got that dvd 600yen which is bargain!!
War, horror and violent films are not really....
Does anyone have any dvds that you want to buy but never find??
I actually have that calls bandits but not the one Bruce Willis on. The film I have been looking for is German film. Altough Ive got the soundtrack, I have never found it...
I have researched where i can buy, went on ebay, alsoI have asked major shops HMV, Virgin but could't find it, which is annying!!
han> Cool, I am debating whether I should study creative writing course or not... Do you want to work where you can use your writing ability? I liked the film Ping Pong as well. Such a quintenssial Japanese film! I didn't know about the ending though...
SOYUZNO> Ah- Godfather trilogy. Very unique for many reasons, one of them being that the sequel is actually better than original.
mickey> Another Godfather fan! Taxi driver is a true classic indeed. When I first saw it, I felt a bit weird that Jodie Foster was that young! lol I was just so used to see her in Accused, then saw the film.
...> I think many people in here likes non-mainstream film. Much less brain-dead then blockbuster for sure! They Live!! I really like John Carpenter, and that film does indeed leave you with a great impression.
ayakito> I first learned about Michel Gondry throguh Bjork video. The ones he made are turely artistic and creative. Blew me away.
Not being able to find that DVD does sound annoying... Hmmm... Maybe it is still not out in DVD yet, and you might have to settle with VHD.
indie hunk > right now i'm working on several stories to be a fiction writer. looks pretty tough though.
about pingpong, I really wanna read the original comics! buying the manga version is the first task of mine to do this summer when i visit japan.
ayakito> i loved that german bandits. i had the VHS tape and OST as well, but a friend from high school borrowed the tape and never gave me back...crappy memory.
but i do have a DVD of michelle gondry's music videos and i once spotted him in SOHO in Manhattan last year!
Hi, John Carpenter is one of my fave director as well.
I think he is very original.
I have to confess I do like some of mainstream type, too though.
I can't deny the fact I truly enjoy some of Jerry Blackheimer-Michael Bay movie as well.
Hello, my name is Ian. Live in Australia, and I
like movies. Was a member of the Jackie Chan fan club when I was young. Met him in Sydney, met
Jet Lee and Maggie Cheung in Melbourne. Apart
from them my only other brush with fame was
meeting the director of the Japanese film
"Fireflies River of Light".
Anyway, I like Japanese film, but I don't like
Akira Kurosawa.
Favourite director is probably Yasujiro Ozu,
favourite film at the moment is probably "Kakushi
Ken, Oni no Tsume" (The Hidden Blade). Favourite
actor is Miyamoto Nobuko.

my fav films are: leon, stand by me, mean girls and cruel intentions (also dangerous liasons for that matter)
mickey>
Woot! Another J. Carpenter fan! Apparently, he is making a new film, which I am looking forward to. Hope his work isn't forever stuck in the 80's though.
rajio>
Jackie Chan is ace!
I have seen your posts various times in English Only Community, and it is good to see you joined the community!
マイテ>
Thanks for reminding me! I always meant to watch Delicatessen and City of Lost Children, but never got around it! Will def. watch it before this month end.
Trippin>
Wow, that is incredible.
3-10 films a week!
That is definately something.
midge> Leon is one of the first films that really captured me!
What is your fave soundtrack by the way?
Hi there. My name (nickname for mixi) is Missing Piece. I live in Sendai, JP, but will move to the U.S. sometime next year.
I love love love LOVE movies. I've been studying a bit to become a translator for English-speaking movies, to make Japanese subtitles. Not so sure if I achieve that goal, but it's fun and that's all that matters!
As for my favorite movies, you can come to my page and take a look at the list of movies that I've rated on IMDb.com.
I've mostly been watching so-called major movies, as you can probably tell from the list. But I've become more interested in "minor" movies these days. I tend to like classic, elegant, and/or clean type of movies... Although, I did enjoy 300 that's been released a week ago in Japan.
Anyhow, a long introduction. Just wanted to say Hi to all
I love a variety of movies with some of my favorites including; Fubar, Bottle Rocket, and 300.
I would love to write more but i broke my arm the other day and my one handed typing skill is not so hot at the moment. In the future i will contribute something worth reading, until then i will be here to watch and enjoy your recommended movies.
I was browsing different communities inside mixi and this particular one caught my attention.
Hi everyone!
My name's Andi, living (and loving) all about Japan 4 years ago. I live in Fujisawa and well... I watch movies compulsively, i must confess.
I really hope to enlarge my movie background and to discover all those great titles that are "musts sees" but for some reason i haven't watched yet.
It's always nice to watch movies with someone so nice to meet you all and let's watch a movie sometime!
Howdy, I am a 47-year old Japanese woman residing in
Tokyo. (Yeah, mom's age, probably)
I spent about 4 years in my childhood and a year in
highschool in the US and my mind kind of sways back
and forth between the two languages.
Since I don't have any English speaking or movie-going
mixi friends, I thought I would join you here.
It's a pity this community does not have more members.
Having been around a bit, I don't spend much time
anymore on the major blockbuster Hollywood
entertainment movies (although I did like X-Men I
and II, not III). I like to see good films that makes
you think about love, pain, regrets, hurts, joys you
experience as you go down the bumpy road called life.
My recent viewing (DVD) was L'Annulaire (The Ringfiner)
based on the novel 薬指の標本 by Yoko Ogawa 小川洋子.
I think it was nicely turned into a French movie,
fetish and erotic.
