Hi there, I enjoy watching Japanese comedies such as Down-town and Warai-meshi, I'm interested in comedy out side of Japan. Since I began to study abroad, I've been working to better understand humor in other cultures specifically in the western world.
Because of that reason, I have made a community that is called "World Humour (世界の笑い)." Clips I listed up in this community are so far all English because I don't understand other languages. I hope you don't mind that I introduce my community here, but I believe this is an educational opportunity because it actually encourages English learners to further their own English skills.
So here's my question, who do you feel is the funniest comedian? And if there are some clips that you can provide via internet, please send me the URL.
If you have positive input to benefit this community and help it grow, I will really appreciate it. Thank you.

Thanks for checking out the community and your input! And John Stewart seems popular among people around me! I watched the show about Dick Cheney, who is US vice president and peppered his friend, which was awesome!
Bytheway someone made his game.

Mencina is pretty funny. I also like Richard Pryor and old old old Eddie Murphy (Raw was excellent). John Stewart is a funny guy too. Conan is a bit hit or miss for me. Craig Kilborn has his moments too.
Some of the older Dennis Leary is also pretty good.
In terms of shows, Curb Your Enthusiasm is always good for a laugh and the first few seasons of Family Guy. I also like the UK episodes of the Office.
If you like geeky humor Futurama was consistently funny.
I think a lot of humor doesn't translate into Japanese since a lot of US/UK humor is very cynical. Japanese people just don't get a lot of cynical humor (as seen in their TV shows). The subtleties are lost on most Japanese. If you read the subtitles to a lot of movies, the sarcastic and cynical jokes are often not translated. I find that sometimes I am the only one laughing in Japanese cinemas.
Sounds interesting thing this community...Here in Spain its such a different humour than in USA or Japan, even the rest of Europe...I think we in the south of Spain are the guys who laugh the most in the whole world (@ least the few world ive seen so far...)We try to make fun of everything, even ourselves (actually, mostly ourselves :P ...)
Anyways, ill try to visit your community next time, im supposed to be working right now..^_^
though i find it hard sharing the site with foreign friends as the characters are at times difficult to understand even for native speakers and the humor is.. a little out there? creative?
Dane Cook is the shit. Conan O'Brien is fuuny along with Jon
Stewart but there are lots of stand up comedians that don't have
their own shows but are hilarious. Ron White a Southern comedian
is on tour and has some good material. Larry the Cable Guy and
Jeff Foxworthy work with Ron White forming a show called "Blue
Collar Comedy." Dave Chappelle is a very controversial and he's
great at bring into light racial, religious and political diffrences.
Denis Leary did stand ups and he also did the voice of the tiger in
"Ice Age."
GSOH is great...
Especially with a hint of satire...

So do I, definitely! Ricky Gervais is fantastic isn't he.
Here's a good one:

'Extras' is also funny:

4> ↑Catalans are funny too. (but maybe they don't mean it) Before coming to Tokyo, I lived with some people from Seville and they were the funniest people I've met yet.... : ) But they were always downloading movies of farm animals trying to fuck people.
They always made me laugh though. Infact it was 2 people from Seville, 2 Catalans, and 3 people from Madrid in our house - so you can imagine the conversation :D
Anyway I think the Japanese humour and spanish humour could be pretty close - you both like crazy shit!

I liked the SNL Celebrity Jeopardy shows. There was one where the Sean Connery character shouted "I'm the cock of the walk!" for no reason - which was probably one of the funniest things ever done by a human being...
I always liked "The League of Gentlemen" from the UK, or "Brasseye". Both extremely British humour that I don't think anyone who hasn't lived in the UK could really grasp. Ironic doesn't even begin to describe it....
I'd like to see some Russian comedy. I think they could have the ability to be even more sarcastic than English people....
↑I love 'The League of Gentlemen' too.
"Dave~, you're my wife now..." LOL!
Chris Morris is cool as well. (He's in the new series called 'IT crowd')
Actually I also like English Northener comedians -very regional- such as 'Vic and Bob' and 'Peter Kay'(sometimes..) though I've only lived in London. It's like non-Japanese living in Tokyo say they like Kansai owarai, I suppose?
BTW I like those strangely funny Japanese guys called 'Ramens' so I think anyone likes Ramens would probably see the comic values.
13> well I'm a Northerner so it's good to hear that you can appreciate our superior Northern humour (haha)
(and superior beer :D )
Yeah, it's funny you like northern comedians, living in London and you're Japanese....
Not related but I reckon Londoners are actually more like people from Kansai, and Tokyo people are more like people from the North of England. For me anyway....
Londoners are more loud and do things quick, whereas Northern monkeys like me are quiet and do things slow. Northerners are way more sarcastic and ironic than southerners - I think it comes from the financial divide between north and south perhaps....you can see it in music too....
mmm I don't know Ramens too well, but I liked those guys Angaaruzu from a while back, the Richard Hall series too - but Egashira 2:50 is still no#1 for me
