Is iTunes even available for OS9 at all? I don't think the language matters - the iTunes I downloaded for my English XP displays Japanese song titles without any problem.

If I recall correctly, the last version of iTunes for OS 9 was iTunes 2. ZDnet has a download available, but I have a feeling that it might not work with a new iPod. Give it a try though:

Becareful though. I don't know if it will just say no or if it will try to format your iPod or something. I have never used an iPod with classic, so I have no idea.

Version 2.0.4, huh. I sure didn't know iTunes has been around for so long. The first version of iTunes I've used is 4.5. :)

heh...I've been using it since version one, though in those days I mostly used SoundJam because it was better at the time, considering I didn't have a large hard drive (1GB o.O;;) or a large music collection.

iTunes has done nothing but improve over the years in my opinion. And my 40GB 4thGen. iPod is doing a fantastic job holding all of my music as well as backing up a good number of my files.

Which one was the first to have the iTMS? 4.0?

That's my guess. I know that iTMS was already available here (in the U.S.) when I bought my iPod mini. :)
