I don't think McCain is any more out of touch than Obama. The politicians from both major parties are all alike: they say what they think they need to say to get elected.

Btw., McCain just picked his VP nominee: Former Miss Alaska, Governor Sarah Palin, who is famous for not being a crotchety old guy like most governors.

All I can say about her is that she is MUCH hotter than Joe Biden.
Obama is really popular....in Japan, Europe, England, Australia, New Zealand,
Africa. But I wonder how popular he is in the U.S.. There are a lot of people
who aren't supporting McCain who will probably vote for him just because Obama
is black.
It will be interesting to see. I like him a lot. I think a President should have vision
and be someone to inspire the very best in people...from some of his speeches
I think Obama might be that person.
But no one spoke of his speech. In my opinion it was so epic. My god, what a speech. He made me feel like americans can change the world if we tried, and did our part (each american). Am I wrong for thinking so? Was his speech BS? If so what parts? I was deeply impressed with obama last night...

"they say what they think they need to say to get elected."

Yeah, because saying things that wouldn't get them elected doesn't work so well.
21 - you know what I mean.
They go against their own principles just to get votes. For instance, Obama changing his mind on off-shore drilling and McCain changing his mind on his belief that social security is a ponzi scheme.
Al Gore used to be anti-abortion and republicans used to actually believe in smaller government.
What i love is that after spending all that time attacking Obama as being inexperienced, lacking Foriegn policy experience, etc
They run out and get the cleanest female republican they can find to try and capitalize on all the turn-coat clinton voters that would blindly vote for the opposition simply because a woman is on their ticket.
If they were on the fence now, then here is their get out of guilt free card.
I will give them this republicans are a shrewd bunch, and when they pull the wool over your eyes, they use some expensive shit, lol
25> You act as if the republicans are the only ones that do this. The whole political process involves them one-upping each other. Mondale tried to get the female vote by choosing Ferraro. Gore tried to get the Jewish vote by picking Lieberman. And I don't know WHO the hell Bush Sr. was trying to win when he selected Dan Quayle... maybe the clown vote?
You give them too much credit. If the republicans were so shrewd, I doubt they would have lost power in both the house AND the senate to a bunch of dems who can barely garner a 9% approval rating!
13---
Obama didn't make the US ready for a black President, Bill Clinton did.
I liked Bill Clinton. That was then and this is now. We have a better option now in Obama.
I agree OG, i think he is a fine choice, i will vote for him, i hope he wins, but i also feel many voters just want an excuse, any excuse, to allow them to not vote for him.
Change as a platform may be his strongest asset, Being here in the states and feeling the pressure from astruggling economy, it is hard not to want something, anything, to change.
True, all our woes are not due to W alone, Partially I blame the Dems for being so weak, there i said it, Dems are big Pu***es sometimes.
>メガロン
Of course political wrangling happens on both sides, but comeon, this is seriously blunt, and yet my greater concern is the mudslinging.
Reps are good at muddying up the oppositions public image, (John Kerry as unpatriotic for example) and many voters often vote based on image alone. People STILL believe this guy is a muslim, b/c of how his name soundsむふっ
let me repeat, despite how "above all this" people wish to be perceived, some just want an excuse not to vote for a BLACK guy, be sure that in the coming weeks, the Reps will try their best to give them plenty
Reveal McCain is on CNNj as I type this and I have to say that what they are showing of John M is scary. Rich brat, hardheaded, good old boy. Was given everything he has because of his and his Fathers social status and connections. Got back from Nam (prison camp) and left his wife that waited for him for 5 years because she was not attractive after a car accident. Used more connections and his families money. Marries a much younger (Rich) women in Arizona. Uses her family money and contacts to get elected to the Senate. I got two words for McCain: Damaged Goods! He has too much experience in the wrong areas. Like Prison POW Camps. Too many enemies, even within his own party. How can anyone in their right minds believe that he could be a better choice for President of the United States than Obama. He is a "not so "normal 72 year old guy and he is ready to be put out to pasture. Obama is young, squeaky clean, inside and out and just happens to be black. If Obama was white McCain wouldn`t even be an issue.
You don't think the dems are as good at mudslinging? Apparently, you're not aware of some of the things dems have said about their opponents over the years that reps could NEVER have gotten away with, such as the prominent democrat (forgot his name) who said "churches will burn if George Bush is elected".
What about Hillary? She did WAY more mudslinging at Obama than McCain's camp. Honestly, I think McCain has been far more gracious than Obama deserves. After Obama's speech where he misleadingly railed on McCain, McCain gave him a congratulatory speech with nothing but good things to say about Obama.
I'm not sure where YOU are hearing it from, but all the anti-Obama stuff I'M hearing deals with his politics, such as his extreme-leftist voting record, his plans to massively expand the size of the imperial federal government, and his desire to raise taxes like never before -- and not his race or religion.
I do, however, see plenty on the dem side who are attacking McCain ONLY on his age. Wouldn't you consider that ageism?
There will always be those people who won't vote for someone else based on race, gender, religion, etc. But they don't make up a big enough demographic in this country to make it worth going after their vote. Trying to frighten people against Obama based on his race/religion might work with a few rednecks in Podunk County USA, but it will alienate a lot more voters than it will win over and the reps know this.
>"churches will burn if George Bush is elected"

This is a Republican smear. The reason you can't remember which Democrat said it, is because no Democrat said it. It originated when a Republican said that a Democrat said it.

Obama does not have an extreme leftist voting record (whatever that means). If you accuse him of it, support it.

Obama does not plan to have an imperial presidency. Bush is practicing Imperial presidency as we speak and McCain plans to continue it.

And Obama plans to raise taxes only on the rich, and the rates are nothing compared to historical rates.
Sadly, I think that the selection of Palin for VP has locked the presidency for McCain. It was a very cunning choice and will get a lot of Hillary voters who only care about what the candidates have between their legs.

I hope i'm wrong, but i doubt it.
this is just my guess but obama's gonna lose because its all set up.
remember the last time Goa against Bush Jr ? As a country, U.S can't have Obama as a president unless they accept to fall down from the top of the world and then get on top again.
its good if they can have change but i personally think they've already missed the chance to change long time ago and now if they change, Europ's gonna take over the world. this makes sense only if Russia doesn't start war.

what do you guys think ?
I'm not a democrat, I'm independent. I'd rather think for
myself, thanks
:p

I'm not 100% impressed with Obama because he hasn't yet proven
himself. But I'm voting for him because it is simply a bad idea
to let Republicans run the country again.

The Republicans have simply not handled situations well. I agree
9/11 was a huge handicap against them, but the end result is, they
failed. And not only did they fail, they didn't fix it.
Economy=fail
Environment=fail
Education=fail
China=fail
and the list goes on....

It's very simple logic and I am sad yet not shocked that
many Americans still have no sense of logic and want to give
Republicans 4 more years.

That's like putting spoiled milk back in the refrigerator hoping
it will become drinkable again.

32 >
NOT a republican smear, my friend. An actual quote. It was a long time ago and I don't have the documentation, so I don't blame you for not believing it.

The claim of Obama's leftist voting record was posted by National Journal. Whether you agree with the claim or not, all you have to do is look at his voting record for yourself.
http://nj.nationaljournal.com/voteratings/

I don't mean "imperialism" in the international sense.
You won't get any arguments from me over Bush and McCain. I am not a McCain supporter. I am a Libertarian who supports Bob Barr. Bush actually managed to grow the federal government more than even Clinton could dream of.
I completely agree with まぁアレだ : the reps had their chance and failed. I'm just afraid Obama will be worse: he wants to grow government and increase its power over us even more than McCain would.

"Raise taxes only on the rich" has always be a great line exploited by democrats to induce wealth-envy among voters.
First, you need to ask yourself who Obama considers to be rich. It includes small business owners who employ about 80% of working Americans. When you tax businesses, it means less jobs, fewer raises, and higher prices of goods purchased.
Let's take "big oil" for example. What happens when Obama places a "windfall-profits" tax on big oil. It gets passed on to the consumer! That means school buses. That means public transportation. That means delivery services. That means YOU.
Let's look at something else you probably haven't considered. Where do you think 401k's are invested? What about ROTH IRA's or Teacher Retirement Plans? What about pension plans? The answer is, they are invested in businesses like.... Big Oil! Take away big oil's profits, and you'll be taking away money from retirement funds --- owned by poor and middle class workers.
Do you really believe a tax increase on the rich won't affect you? If so, I'll have whatever you're smoking. Take a look at California... state taxes are high on the rich, but as a result, the cost of living is high for EVERYONE -- and businesses are leaving the state in droves! ...which brings me to my next point:
Higher taxes drive businesses away.
We have the 2nd highest corporate tax rate in the world. (Source: The Tax Foundation)
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121875570585042551.html?mod=opinion_main_review_and_outlooks&67
And you wonder why companies and jobs are moving overseas?
We are also the ONLY country that double-taxes our own companies. Example: If a Japanese company does business in Japan, they pay Japanese taxes. If it does business in USA, they pay American taxes. Fair enough. But if an American company does business in Japan, they have to pay Japanese AND American taxes! We are the only country in the world that does this. Put 2 and 2 together, and you'll figure out why so many American companies have chosen to incorporate overseas.
Some stats from the Congressional Budget Office:
# The richest 1% of households in the U.S. are now paying a record 27.6% of all federal taxes and a record of 38.8% of all federal income taxes.
# The richest 1% of households only earn about 17% of all income.
# The top 1.1 million households pay a greater share of the income tax burden than the bottom 90 million households combined.

Raising taxes is NOT what we need during an economic recession. Ask most economics professors (regardless of their particular political leanings) and they'll confirm this statement.
It's called economics 101, and Obama hasn't studied. But he doesn't need to, because most voters haven't either.

"When you rob Peter to pay Paul, you can always count on the support of Paul."
I think what may hurt the woman as s republican candidate that is from what I understand, her husband and adult son are not republican, much less registered with a party.

Ouch.
Biden could find different things to eloquently beat her during their debate, I believe.
Be nice while rubbing her face to stone. >_o;

"NOT a republican smear, my friend. An actual quote. It was a long time ago and I don't have the documentation, so I don't blame you for not believing it."

So you can't use it to make any point.
oh oh,
sounds like someone still believes trickle-down economics works, lol
あっかんべー
>38
Certainly I can. Many of our arguments are based on things we've seen or heard in the past but currently cannot produce immediate documentation. Indeed, you did not produce sources saying it was a fabrication.

If you want me to make an argument that I CAN document, how about this? If Bush lied about the Iraq war and the weapons of mass destruction, what about your wonderful Democrats?

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear.
We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

And here's your documentation:
http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/b/bushlied.htm

Maybe none of these WMD quotes were uttered by Obama himself, but they were uttered by his supporters and fellow party members.

I'll repeat myself: Democrats and Republicans are 2 sides of the same coin.
>39
It DOES work, if you cut spending. But both parties refuse to do that, because pork projects = votes.
Do you disagree with me that high taxes affect everybody and the overall economy? By all means! Back that up with some logic! Explain to me how a massive tax on the oil companies will make gas prices go down. Explain how your 401k will benefit when the stocks your employer has invested in are taxed all to hell.
>40

"Indeed, you did not produce sources saying it was a fabrication. "

Nope, because the burden of proof is on you.
>43
No, you're the one who accused me of using false data, so I am turning the burden of proof onto you.
You made a statement.
You cannot support it.

I'm really bored now.
I'm bored, too.
I think I'm gonna go eat some tacos.

I'll talk to you after the Republican infomercial! ...ooops, I meant the Republican convention!
They run out and get the cleanest female republican>>

Clean???

Here's my 2 cents. Presidential candidates are marketed...
You have to be careful about buying into their public image, because usually its all scripted.
That said, McCain does have more experience than Obama... The issue are *the issues* and who and what they represent. McCain's choice of Palin proves that he is alligned with the FAR RIGHT... and in so having covered it up is a phony and a liar... further, that if he really believed experience was an issue, also doesn't care very much about a major nuclear arsenal in the time of war being in the hands of "hockey mom"...
and why? Just to steel the Hillary vote, assuming that most women are too dumb to know the difference between Hillary Clinton's brand of feminism - - and Republican women who also believe in the importance of strong women (...standing by their men and not having control over what comes in or out of their reproductive organs.)
Here's what I say:
Obama's voting record and choice of running mate show's what he's about.
I think the heroic larger than life modern day JFK/Martin Luther King stuff to a great deal is MARKETING... however, his record is his record and to me his record and character are consistent. - - He's great at articulating his ideas... I think McCain is better at explaining stuff off the bat, whereas Obama gives better speeches... however, I agree with OBAMA not McCain...
Now, let's take war hero turned maverick senator McCain.... what about him?
McCain tried to market himself as a moderate... but then puts a candidate endorsed by the Ann Coulters and Rush Limbaughs.... Woe, daddy!
Bush did the same thing... he ran as a "compassionate" and "new type" conservative... then appoints Dick Cheyney and company and let's them run the administration.
I never was fooled... I remembered the "good old days" of Reagan and Bush and how everyone in my city was crying for help during the Crack/HIV epidemic, and the conservatives were too busy with their SECRET WARS in Latin American and using "trickle down economics" as an excuse for refusing to save the cities. So with Bush, NO, I WASN'T FOOLED and I knew the wars and people mysteriously disappearing in poorer country's all over the world would start again..
But I digress...
If McCain wins and drops dead we got Ann Coulter in the White House....
Tom Ridge or Joe "Slime" Leiberman might have been bad... but I could live with it...
but I wonder: How many "moderate" Bush supporters would have voted for them if they really knew what Cheyney/Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz were all about and that THEY would be given free reign?
So what about Palin? From what I'm reading about Sarah Palin, she's basically 100% alligned with the evangelicals...
So we'll go from the neo-cons - - who abuse people's rights abroad to...
evangelical cons... who will take people's rights away in the U.S.
Jeez... and to think that the Republicans are supposed to be the party of Lincoln...
wowzers!
Yet I do think Obama might be in trouble:
INTELLIGENT women are going to understand what McCain is up to and not fall for it...
however, most people are not INTELLIGENT... they go for the MARKETING.
The MASSES *are* ASSES as the old saying goes...
Dumb liberals will vote for Obama because of the clever camera angels and Kennedy-esque shots... and Dumb conservatives will go for McCain, the Bible thumping, war mongering and "YOOOO-ESSS-AY! YOOO-ESSSS-AY! YOOOO-ESSSSS-AY" country music shit...
and how can any BELOW AVERAGE INTELLIGENCE person not have some sympathy for a born again Christian/MILF/same gender as Hillary hockey mom and old guy who is out to protect them against Moslem extremists and Baby Killing liberal elitist sodomites?
Face it folks, unless you contact DEMOCRATS ABROAD, get your write in ballad and figure out how to spell OBAMA, we're all doomed...
U.S economy's run by making wars everywhere in the world. some analyst say.
as a japanese im a bit pissed off about America Russia China. they think they're still in the war.
what the idiots. world doesnt work like that any more and they probably know thats why fighting in the middle. and countries used as battle fields dont realise they've been just used.

when's the election by the way?
U.S economy's run by making wars everywhere in the world.>>
Yeah, but the Japanese economy is run by the spoils of these wars... of which many of the checks to fund them are written by your own government...
I assume if the evil U.S. troops left Japan, there would have to be a draft in Japan, and like other small countries all young Japanese would be required to serve in the army...
and since most the countries surrounding Japan are still p*ssed off about Japan's behavior in the past, you'd probably have to fight with them now in then...
so instead of having the leisure of playing video games and reading Manga, you'd have to stand in the way of bullets.
I personally speaking agree with Obama's philosophy of war... that all wars are not bad... only STUPID ones... that said, for you to complain is hypocritical especially when its *off topic* and has nothing to do with the thread, which is about Obama.

Election is November 2...

Saddam had them and was just too smart to get caught. In any case he would have had them soon enough so he still had to go.

#36 Obama graduated from some major institutions of higher learning. The guy is a dam near
genius. And you are saying he doesn`t understand. I find that very difficult to believe that he would not have the proper information or advise from his aids etc to make the right choices.
all wars are not bad ??
what about guns ? how could it be legal ?
why always have to think about fighting?
why not talk ?
When you believe you are right, and stronger than your opponent/partner, it is very difficult to
accept when they don`t agree with you on important issues. If the issues are important enough
to you, you will not give up without a fight. Verbal or otherwise. Human nature.

And you wonder why companies and jobs are moving overseas?

Good point but the problem is how the taxes are implemented. What they
should do is give incentives for tax breaks to business that keep
operations in the US.

Whether comapnies are taxed or not, they're moving operations overseas
and implementing more and more outsourcing anyways. You can't blame
only taxes for it. Yes, it's tough on businesses when the wages
are cheaper overseas, but corporations that can overcome the
adversity should be rewarded.

It's a difficult law to write up and enforce, but I'm certain
that one of the many think tanks amongst the American university
system can come up with a logical plan.
