Hi, I've already lived in Japan under a pre-college student visa for almost a year. I would like to come back and work in Japan but am not sure about the exact rules and stuff about a Work visa. I know that the laws have changed recently so you can recieve your work visa while actually being in Japan but can you actualy apply for it and do everything while on a tourist visa or would i have to do everything outside of the country first? I am coming to Japan next month on a tourist visa and have a place to stay for a month and was going to apply for many jobs while being there. Would i have to leave the country to do something or can everything be done while in Japan?
It can be done while in Japan. But you need to have a sponsor, job, etc. You have a 4-year college degree, right? You'll need one for almost any visa. It may very well take more that a month for you to find a job and get all the paperwork done, however. You should try to be prepared to stay longer or leave the country for a period of time. If you're looking to be an English teacher, you should be able to find a job quickly. Otherwise, expect to have to do some serious legwork unless you have very good Japanese skills or a very valuable skill.
