A report says about 1500 people were standing in a line over the night.

i have actually got a new iphone by waiting in a line for 15 hours which is absolutely the most exhausting thing i have ever done in my whole life.

how did the launch of the new iphone treat you guys?

コメント(57)

the new iphone has been keeping me busy to find out what i can do with this gadet.

i can come up with pros and cans or cons? on the new iphone.

iphone doesnt have some features that the japanes cell has

iphone doesnt have erectronic wallet funtions and digital TV on it , which is a major reason that keeps people from buying one.

and a lot of people say monthly cost of the iphone is high which is true but i can deal with that.

and pros?......unlimited intenet access and what else? thats what ive come up with so far....

anyway iphone is a smartphone so you gotta be smart-ass as well.

i made a lenghty contract with my career and im supoosed to spend about 2000bukcs on the iphone by the time my cantract is expired. so i gotta make the most of this fantastic gadget

>> Why don't you just get the iPod Touch?
>> The only difference is that you can call people with it and
>> also get online anywhere right?

Those are VERY VERY big differences. I have an iPod touch, but I am seriously considering buying an iPhone 3G. First, all I'll have to carry would be my iPhone - not my cellphone AND my iPod touch. The fewer devices I have to carry, the better. Second, it means a lot to be able to be online anywhere, anytime. Right now, I have to look for a free wireless spot when I'm walking around and want to connect to the 'Net. With an iPhone, that becomes totally unnecessary. I'd be able to check mail, chat with buddies via AIM, and check my Facebook profile right away - whether I'm on the bus, at a cafe or out on the street.

You still think those are trivial differences?
<--- losing more faith in humanity with each new post to this thread.
unbdaveable (#20)

That's too bad. You know what, you can ALWAYS ignore this thread if you hate reading about the iPhone that much. :)
It's like a terrible car wreck - can't look away.

Just kiddin' guys. I'll prolly get one too, once I kick the land line!
Think Apple should stick to making computers and various other iShite ウインク
The mobile communication ladder ain't for them - I can't see them releasing something new every six-eight months.

So far, everything looks shit...
Come to think of it, I think my PDC cell does more!! わーい(嬉しい顔)
Has useful IR for a start!

Also.. the price SoftBank is offering is terrible!
Have you read their small print? Seriously, have you?
I think you should go check it out before you even consider downgrading.

Existing SoftBank users can't get a discount, even if you cancel your existing contract!! Discounts only given to new customer, switching networks!!

>> Considering function of cell phone in Japan ,iphone is inferior to plain
>> Japanese cell phone.

There are issues specific to the Japanese mobile phone market. First, lots of web sites are built around the limited (and specialized) cellphone interface so a full-fledged browser on a cellphone is not really advantageous. Second, the cellphone e-mail system can't extend to the regular computers. Third, both are now very popular among the Japanese.

If you ask me, I'd say smartphones, such as the iPhone and Windows Mobile phones, are much more capable than the typical Japanese cellphones. Smartphones let you browse any regular web sites and use regular e-mail systems. They work with Exchange Server. They can use Wi-Fi where available, providing faster network performance.
How much is this cost per month? PLS tell me the total cost(included E-mail and Web Service)
だいはど (#6)

Thank you very much for your comment. That make me really want to buy an iPhone 3G :)
だいはど #10===>

I live in Southern California, where AT&T barely works ANYWHERE here!!! Everybody thinks so! I don't know a place where it works perfectly.... たらーっ(汗)
Funky Love Bunny:
that data limit kinda sucks :( I pay 30 euro's a month (everything included) here and I have unlimited 2MB/s of data, no limitations :D tho I use wifi as much as possible, its way faster xD

works great until now, altho I see a lot of small things that could be better in the interface, its so much better than windows mobile -_-;;

Japanese input and font works great for me, maybe now I can finally practice some in the train xD
>Funky Love Bunny

In Japan, there are NO FREE iPhones. So, whatever plan you choose, you still have to buy the handset!! Putting 0円 down would be a dream!!

 ▶Basic package free minutes:
   8,190円 (base)
  (L Plan Value - 300 free minutes - 10.5円 per 30 seconds afterwards)

 ▶Voice mail service:
315円 (extra for visual voice mail?)

 ▶Email, web access fee:
   315円

 ▶Unlimited data packets:
   9,800円 (X Series smartphone price)

 ▶Total monthly charge:
   18,602円

 ▶To buy the iPhone:
   19,900円

 ▶Total one-year cost:
   19,900円 + (18,602円 X 12月) = 243,124円
(if your over the 300mins, there's gonna be additional charges...)

Still think it's cheap?

Put it this way....
For about 250,000円, I can buy a 15" MacBook Pro!!

I think I'm sticking with my current provider,
it's cheaper and there's more useful features!!

Seriously? That's a lot of money. Here in the U.S., the cheapest plan is $69,99 a month, including unlimited data and 400 anytime minutes. I thought THAT was a rip-off!
Sorry, only in Japanese..

Company news with slightly revised pricing.... though still a little confusing ふらふら

I don't really see the point with wasting money on such a phone. The only decent thing that's useful in everyday situations is the Weather Check and Yahoo Maps.. And my 50$ Cell Phone can do that... lol... As well as play music...

I've never had a problem carrying a Phone and an MP3 Player.. I think I can survive half a day without checking Email or any Social Network sites. Anyways, How often would you need to check E-mail and ect when your out and about... Unless you run a buisness, it's absolutely pointless....

And if you need to check Myspace, Facebook, or some other Social Network even when your away from home, I highly sugest seeking help from a Psycologist.. Cause that's really sad...

Besides, Hypothetically speaking, If your checking E-mail, chatting on AIM, Listening to Music, and surfing the web... Will you even have battery power to have a lengthy phone call? Can that phone go 2 days with useage and not die? Or does it die in a day?

Either way I look at it, It's just another toy to get people into waisting their money...
ウィール: you are not really familiar with luxury products? Basicly we don't need anything besides food and shelter to survive, yet we buy HD TV's, super fast computers, cars with extra's etc etc.... I'm pretty sure I think you waste your money on stupid things too, but I understand why you do it. If you really can't see why people buy it, you should just look in the mirror sometime maybe :3

I enjoy my iPhone, it makes me happy, really happy! I'm a poor student who cuts some costs to buy it, and it's worth every penny to me ^__^ you waste your money one way or another, I choose this way ;)

Hmm... I take it you don't know anything about Japanese Keitai's huh?
Please, allow me to give you a insight...

In Japan, most users will use email (push mail) to communicate, (instead of short messages - as most SMS only work within the same provider) so technically speaking a Keitai user doesn't have to check for mail, it actually gets delivered! Surprised? Some Keitai's will allow the user to set-up a third party mail box.. though usually it's Yahoo (Jpn).

Also, near enough all subscribers will have on the spot weather reports, it's part of the service here. On some networks have 'disaster' and 'earthquake' reports too. For a while now, they have been using GPS, both for keeping track of loved ones and looking up places/locations. It seems GPS is something new on western mobiles...

As far as YouTube and SNS goes...
Near enough all new Keitai's have 1Seg Live Digital TV that's free to use, some handsets can record direct from the broadcast. Web access is kinda normal on all subscribers... How you think many people access Mixi?

So tell me. Why do Japan need a iPhone again? Perhaps they don't?
Only some people like to use a non-Japanese mobile oppose to the regular Keitai?? "man wants, what they can't have" - pops in my mind.

>Miszou-さん
Yeah it's nice to treat yourself once in a while. However if i was a student (in Japan) I can think of much better things to spend my 24万5千円 on...
it's crap! don't need to explain myself. if you knew about phones, you would know the iphone is crap!
> George

Crap?
Dornt ye pure techt it's complete an' utter jobbie! mucker?
i want an i phone just because its cute....
dont need any other reasons to have it,or not to have it.
for now, what im more interested in is RAKURAKUHON simple.
you can only talk with it. no Email,or camera.
how dinasouric and kool it is!!
聖ホンマ (#38)

>> In Japan, most users will use email (push mail) to communicate, (instead of

Like I mentioned above, that _can be_ seen as a problem. Why? Because the cellphone e-mail system in Japan cannot easily be used on regular PCs. That's where smartphones have their advantage. Smartphones can handle regular e-mail systems and other groupware. For instance, I can read/write mail on my iPod touch using my corporate Exchange account. I can also view and modify my Exchange calendars. The same mail and calendars I access at work (and home). Can you do that with a typical Japanese cellphone?

The reason the Phone is a near ideal device for me is because it is really an extended computer that has uninterrupted Internet access instead of a phone with tons of gadgets, which is what the Japanese cellphone is IMO. With an iPhone, you can view regular Web pages as well as iPhone-optimized sites. You can check your home and corporate mail. You can sync with corporate contacts and calendar systems. And you cna make a phone call! :) The only thing I wish the iPhone had is a better built-in camera. :)
@聖ホンマ: Lucky I'm a student in Holland ^^ only 30,- euro's a month! and I payed 71,- for the phone a lot cheaper :3 Well if I lived in Japan I probably had bought a cute clamshell xD I love those, but they don't sell good ones here :(

@George: Sure its not the best phone, but they all got some faults, it's not that bad actually, plus we all like different things in phones

I wonder why people have to say that it sucks so much, is it because it is hyped so much? aren't people just entering the hype by attacking it for no good reason? I guess commercials really get to anybody :P
>だいはどさん
Your right in saying that Jpns keitai emails isn't accessible on the desktops, but why would you want to? OK, keitai's might be filled with gadgets but most of them are actually useful!! I guess, if your not residing in Japan, then it's only a useless "gadget". right?

Still my point being, the iPhones pricing isn't exactly affordable, the cost of ownership just isn't realistically viable here... SoftBank ain't exactly doing itself any favours with all the extra expenses either! - But that's just me.. maybe to others it's OK. Anyway, you should buy one or two, if it suits you. I'll stick with my current hunk of plastic, it works and cheap to runわーい(嬉しい顔)

>Miszouさん
Why they suck?
@聖ホンマ Why indeed? I don't find them to suck my self, I was only referring to other people who seem to have to shout that :3 I was being sarcastic with the commercial comment.

@ニコール+豆 Well, providers won't allow voip over 3G, for the obvious reason :P no problems with using wifi tho, you can find hotspots anywhere to voip to your home country :D
The i-phone is a lot of hype, and as 38:聖ホンマ mentioned
in Japan a lot of keitai already have the functions that
people are getting excited about on the i-phone. But just
because there is a lot of hype, it doesn't mean the i-phone
is a waste of money.
For some people it's worth it, and if you wait a few months
the price will start to go down. I think what they are
charging for data is a bit excessive. You can get a little
wireless broadband modem which is fundamentally the same
technology, on an 8gig plan for $30 if you shop around.
聖ホンマ (#45)

>> Your right in saying that Jpns keitai emails isn't accessible on the desktops,
>> but why would you want to?

It's not just the desktop environment the Japanese cellphones cannot access. It is the whole Internet-based world including the corporate and personal information management systems and full-fledged Web sites that are world-standard.

>> I guess, if your not residing in Japan, then it's only a useless "gadget". right?

I'd put it a bit differently. I do believe the Japanese cellphones are designed well to cater to the specific market in Japan. Once you go out and look around, you will notice that they lack some fundamental features that come with the cheapest smartphones these days.

That is why the Japanese cellphone carriers have finally started adding full browsers to their newer models... isn't it? I believe it's a step in the right direction.
Well, I like Sony Ericsson K810i on Vodafone (UK) and I like my (au) here in Japan. Each have different features, some are more usable on the other.

However, when comparing handsets, I don't find the iPhone answers my praises, due to it's horrid touch screen interface. For users who don't blind type, it's fine.. but for some of us, (though not speaking for all) I'd prefer the standard twelve button entry system as found on regular handsets.

Sure, western mobiles are slowly getting some of the more universal features that have been taken for granted on Japanese mobiles.. faster data bandwidth would be nice, something on par with ADSL would be great!! And Japan is learning to expand it's somewhat perfected web accessing abilities.

End of the day, each system has it's flaws...

YES THEY DO!

Perhaps the day will come when both would be equal... Though, not likely.
聖ホンマ (#49)

Interesting you should refer to the touchscreen as something "horrid." Have you tried the "12-key kana input mode"? It is very close, if not totally identical, to the traditional 12-button system as you mentioned above. I just wrote a couple of short messages using it. I was able to "blind type" them, if not very fast.

Now how often do you write mail in English using your cellphone? I'm betting hardly ever, because the 12-button entry system is not suited for alphabetical input at all. With the iPhone you can switch among different keyboard layouts. Not so when the buttons are physically installed on the device. :)

>> End of the day, each system has it's flaws...

I must agree with you on this. Despite the impression I may have given you, I don't think the current iPhone is a perfect solution, nor have I ever stated as such. Just that if I compare it with a typical Japanese cellphone, with all my needs considered, the iPhone wins hands-down. (I write most of my mail in English, which is a big factor too as I stated above.)
>だいはどさん

Really wanna know?
Well, I write 95〜98% of my emails in English, getting on 200〜300 emails a month, some time more!!!

Over the years I've learn to "blind type" with ease. Occasionally I need to look, cause on some Keitai the cursor doesn't automatically move - that's really annoying!! - why does it do that???

I tried to type on a iPhone while in the store, once before, it's the lack of physical buttons and the knob-in on the "5" key that makes it practically impossible ... I can't feel what i've pressed and where i'm located... similar to the rises found on a QWERTY keyboard - you know what I'm on about?
だいはど

Have you tried this? http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/06/wwdc-keynote_134.jpg Does it work with Japanese language? (I know this question may sound stupid. But I heard that Kanji is different from Chinese characters.) I'm thinking I will use it as a Kanji dictionary. It must be very convenient because I am too lazy to find a kanji by the radical method :)
聖ホンマ (#52)

Okay, I must admit this. I am highly impressed. Nobody that I know of, including myself, can type English comfortably using the 12-button UI on the Japanese cellphone. You're somebody else. That much I'll give you. :)

Yes, I agree that the lack of automatic cursor forwarding is annoying. In fact, I assumed it would be the same on the iPod touch and was pleasantly surprised. :)

Oh, and to be true to my word, I just bought an iPhone on Saturday. Talk the talk, walk the walk, right? :)
ギー (#53)

No, the Japanese input methods do not include handwriting. As far as I can see, handwriting is available only for Traditional and Simplified Chinese.
Hi All,

I really like the iphone, along with Apple products in general, and think it is the best product out on the market. The only problem is that in the US the only service provider you can use is AT&T. I will not purchase one until I have a choice of service providers. The cheapest plan you can get is $50-60/month and there isn't even free nights and weekends with it. WTF Apple?

The only other problem I have w/ the iphone is that there isn't enough space on it for all of my music...I probably wouldn't use it as my primary mp3 player (right now anyways), but it would be nice to be able to use its features, use 3rd party apps, and carry all of my music.

I imagine by the time their deal w/ AT&T expires, they will have a model w/ 30GB+. I'll probably buy one when they have enough balls for service provider competition.

By the way, does anyone know what's going on with the class action suit against apple in California regarding their service provider monopoly?
マイコー (#56)

I totally agree with you on the carrier monopoly. And of all the providers, Apple chose AT&T! I'd be much happier with T-Mobile.

Like I said above, however, I couldn't wait any longer. I stayed away from the first-gen iPhone because it wouldn't allow for Japanese character input (unless you hacked it). Now that it is available (and much improved over the original method available for the iPod touch), I simply had to get it.

I have AT&T's cheapest plan, which is $69.99 a month. You're right, it does not include unlimited night/weekend minutes, but it does include unlimited data. That's what I need for my iPhone. 450 anytime minutes and 5000 w/n minutes is way more than enough for me. ;)
