I think that there are many people living in or having visited Tokyo in this community and I need your help.
Actually I have a friend who will visit Tokyo next summer and asked me to give him some nice addresses in Tokyo like restaurants, theaters, bars or music houses...
I'm Japanese but I'm not living in Japan and my family is in Okinawa. So I don't know about Tokyo at all...
As a foreigner, where is your favourite place in tokyo? Where do you enjoy with your friends? Or where your foreigner friends most appreciated?
I have no good idea about restaurants, theaters, bars or music houses in Tokyo, but I personally recommend Asakusa and Akihabara because it's pretty Japanese, my family and I like those spots. (We are gaijin family and we came to Japan two years ago.)
If your friend expects something flashy or urban for his/her stay in Tokyo, Shinjuku or Shibuya would be nice but he/she might need a Japanese speaking guide who is familiar with the local. Shinjuku/Shibuya might have everything for the requirement (restaurants, theaters, bars or music houses).
Hope your friend will have a great visit in Tokyo.
I guess Big city like Shinjuke,Roppongi...etc might excite him and these places are expressing "Today's Japan",but almost nothing would be defferent if he went to New York or somewhere like there.
I would show him the originality of Japan like temples, shrines..etc.
It depends on what his purpose of visit is.If he just wanna see you,Shinjuku,Shibuya or this kimd of places are quite easy to find somewhere to do anything.
I wish I knew what your friend's hobby is.
I should be able to tell you information more concretely.
Generally speaking, famous places in Tokyo would be Tokyo Tower in Minatoku, Odaiba, Roppongi, Shibuya, Shinjyuku.

Thank you for your comment!
I'll recommand him to take this "lonely planet tokyo city guide". I hadn't heard about this guidebook, maybe it's sold in english country?
I'll also check "Robotan" on the Internet.
>Alexis
Thanks!
Shibuya can be nice for him because he is interrested in different architecture.
>Bertie
Thank you for your help!
Actually he is an architect and interrested in different aspects of Japan culture.
I'll tell him to visit Asakusa too. It likes typically traditional Japan. (he won't go to Kyoto so it can be very interresting for him)
>Dave
Thanks for your advices!
He is currently living in Paris so Shinjuku or Roppongi can interrest him. Paris is nothing like these places... it will be nice because he can see different buildings or architectures!
>Lirio
It's really kind of you to give this information!
It sounds very nice place! I maybe will go to there when I go to Tokyo
>Square
Thank you for your advices and links* It's really helpfull I think Odaiba will interrest him very much. As he's an architect, he's interrested in Japanese architecture.
I have never lived in Tokyo but every time I visit Tokyo, I always go to theatres and museums. Tokyo is one of the best places in the world where you can see top-class art performances like ballet, classical music concerts and musical. There are always some concerts or performances of world-famous artists from all over the world. You can easily search for events on PIA although it seems that the ticket sale has been suspended for a while (you can read it only in Japanese).
As for museums, there are a few art museums in Ueno park. I also liked Tokyoto Teien Museum (東京都庭園美術館) in Meguro. This might be interesting for your friend since the building is beautiful and they are going to hold a photo exhibition about Japanese architecture soon.
There is one place I think your friend might be interested in. It's Tokyo International Forum. It's a very beautiful modern building and one of the famous landmarks of Tokyo.(HP:http://www.t-i-forum.co.jp/english/)
I found a website which might be useful for serching for museums and events in Tokyo.
I found the Tokyo-Edo Museum's architecture quite interesting. The museum itself is mainly in Japanese, but it is an interesting museum if he is into history or anything old!
For me, Shibuya is a nightmare... how old if your friend? If he is young he might like it, but if he is over 30, he may not enjoy it. Shinjuku is great, but only if you know where you are going. I also recommend the lonely planet guidebook.
Does he like Japanese food? Theres a nice Yakitori place inside Opera City in Hatsudai, also, in the Metropolitan Plaza restaurant floor in Ikebukuro station (near the Metropolitan exit) there is a seriously yummy Tofu restaurant. Both are not all that expensive. Tofu restaurant gets more expensive in the evening.
When my Korean friend came to Japan, we took him to Akihabara to see MEIDO , Shinjuku to see Kabukicho , Asakusa to visit Senso-temple ,Tukiji to eat Sushi , Yaesu to go to Karaoke , Roppongi to look around Roppongi hills , Tokyo tower and Tokyo disney land.
I thought the just shopping place are all same for him.
Actually He was not interested in shopping.
That is why we selected this course and he said he really enjoyed it.

Tokyoto teien museum sounds very nice.It must be beautiful during the season of cherry blossom
>カレコラ
Actually, my friend is over 30...Thanks for your information! It's true that Shibuya is a little a for young or teens. (It's still interresting too!)
Nice Yakitori place can interrest him, he does like Yakitori
>黒帯
Thanks for your comment!
I agree with you that the shopping places are all the same. And I think that guys are less interrested in shoppig than girls.
Roppongi hills and Tokyo mid town would be very nice
