Everytime I talk to people from different places, we all have unique sayings, and slang words we use. Most the time when you use your local sayings or slang people from other places don't have a clue what you're talking about. So lets share some and all feel alittle more educated!
Some to get started... - 'Shit a brick' - oh thats bad - 'bugger' - oh no - 'Thats gold!' - good stuff, thats great!
To my friends including my Japanese ones I always leave the conversation with a "Peace Out Homies" ...all my American friends get it lmao but the Japanese ones are lost...but then they start to say it with me lol So its cool
I say "Hella" a lot...people say its a North Cali thing but I could have sworn Gwen got me saying that and she's from Southern Cali so Im stickin to my Southern Cali rules lol
I say 'Homechick' a lot too...totally random things.
I know theres more...but California is a big place...we say lots of things...
I always say "How do?" which is short for "how do
you do?"
For people who are a little crazy we might say;
"A few cans short of a 6 pack"
"A few chops short of a barbie (bbq)"
Meaning he's missing something in his head.
I sometimes say, "He's a bit soft" which means the
same.
"a cup of tea, a Bex and a good lie down" - this the Aussie granma's panacea, the solution to all problems.
"dag" - an term of endearment for friends, also means a piece of poo hanging off a sheep's bum!
"done like a dinner" - totally defeated, for example "the Japanese baseball team was done like a dinner by the Aussies in the 2004 Olympics".
"don't come the raw prawn" - don't try to fool me.

>>"a cup of tea, a Bex and a good lie down"
You're showing your age...it must be 20 years
since bex was taken off the market because it
was causing liver failure in all the bored and
depressed 50 something housewives.

>>"the dog's bollocks"
We (Australians) often say "bollocks" when
someone says something that's not true.
I guess maybe another version of "the dogs
bollocks" would be "the bees knees"
I agree Gwen Stefani started the whole Hella movement, but North Cali. kinda brought it back in the mix.
Some slang we have here people might get confused on that I can think of are...
Bick. For example, I'm gonna bick it, I'm just bicking it, bick
When you say, I'm gonna bick it, it's I'm gonna leave, Bicking it is, I'm just chillin, and bick is kinda like, AWESOME or sick or wicked whatever you use.
I think calling soda pop is horrid.
Maybe because I'm from california. pop sounds like my grandma's slang.
another one is...
Business.
uses would belike, That top isthe business or, I'm the business.
it's like saying, That top is the shit or the bomb or awesome. or I'm the bomb or the shit.
there's more list goes on and on.
I think when you hear them in a sentence, they make more sense, you'll never get lost in translation haha
For people ever wondering what an American idiom means, www.urbandictionary.com is a good place to go. I guess we use a lot of acronyms in conversations.
LMAO = laugh my 4$$ off
ROFL = roll on floor laughing
AFC = away from computer
I also like "Shit" because it is so ridiculous in it's usage. For example, when something is awesome, people say "Thats the shit!" You'd think that would be a bad thing, but its not. Also, its uttered all the time when people fuck. Girl sucks your dick good? Sheeeeiiittt.... ah sheeeiiitt... The last thing I want to think about while having sex is a ball of shit, but people say it all the time. "Damn baby, shiiitt..."
