Hello everyone.

I found an article about geoenvironmental issue on abc new Tuesday, March 20, 2007.

How do you think/feel about that? There is rumor that oil-based economy/industry is refuging improvement of less-gass-emitt machinary. The whole article is the following.http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory?id=2959858

The summury:Investors who together manage nearly $4 trillion in assets are calling on Washington to pass rules aimed at slashing emissions of global warming gases.

About time... haha looks like people are starting to take notice. I just wish they could have done something about this earlier when we actually noticed global warming. Currently i'm working on a project to use bio-waste into a useable gas. Going to go to Washington DC and Detroit next month with my team and hopefully we can have different corporations and other government officials take notice of what is being done.
Yeah, it really is time. I still believe that it takes personal effort on everyone's part in order to make changes happen. In the meantime, I'm all for federal-level regulations to help make our world more environment-friendly.
The calls for political pressure mean one thing.

Environmentally friendly alternatives are uneconomic compared to the existing technologies, and need crutches in the form of government subsidies and legislation to compete.

The problem with switching to many times of alternative energy is that meaningful reductions require significant capital expenditure, and the pace of technological progress means that doing something now rather than later results in a less efficient use of financial resources. What that means is waiting to deploy such alternative energy infrastructure will result in more emissions reductions per dollar (or yen or whatever) than deploying now, for the build out requiring the same budget or capacity.

The question then becomes whether we can afford to wait a few years and ensure a greater reduction in emissions over the life of a new alternative energy facility, or whether there is a tipping point in the global warming model (assuming we haven't crossed that point already....) which means that we have to act now even if that means less efficient use of resources in the long run. There is much debate regarding climate models, so it will be interesting to see how things unfold.

There is however no debating the impact of technological advances which are leading to more cost efficient methods of alternative energy production (especially solar but also for other new technologies) and this is an area which has been neglected in the debate regarding the transition to a more sustainable economy.
