Hey everyone!

I need your help. This may make me sound like a raging metrosexual (maybe, I've been called it before), but my favourite hair styling product here in Japan got discontinued (Gatsby Solid Ultra Hold Clay) by Gatsby. Actually, Gatsby just replaced almost all their men's hair products with some new thing called "moving rubber".

Well, all week I've been looking for a replacement. Years ago it took me a lot of time, money and error in finding a good hair product here. Basically, I really loved the old Gatsby product because it was water-based. Most Japanese hair styling products are wax-type which means they do not come out in water.

All this week I've tried various other products. I've even tried this "moving rubber" stuff. It's horrible. Like most other Japanese hair styling products, it's similar to wax. I tried to shampoo this stuff out of my hair and it would not come out. Took three washes to remove it from my hair. So, I'm looking for your recommendations. A good clay type hair product that washes out in water easily. NO WAX or anything similar to wax. Ifit doesn't mix with water, I don't want it on my melon.

I'd appreciate any recommendations.

aww that sucks! Since I don't live in Japan I can't tell you what other products are there, but I will suggest hair spray.. unless you hate it. But I always thought hair spray can do a good job at holding hair into place... though their has to be some kind of hair cream other then the one you used. right? try looking in hair salons or something like that... I don't really focus on my hair to much, I usually us hair things. Well hope you find your product.

my recommend is NIGELLE SERIES,especially WORKFORM is good. One of good point is keeping hair but it looks very natural.

Japanese hair tend to hard and straight,so it is different to foreigns'.

I think both Japanese and foreigns like to use them.

Please try it.
I always went with the hard type (extra strong hold) water-based gels. They were easy to work with and washed out easily.. But I have no idea what kind of hair you have so it's hard to say. You do mention it was "ultra hold" that you had before, so I am just guessing that would apply to gels too if you plan on using something else.

hehe, I guess we're all pretty metrosexual here.. :p
Thanks for the advice so far.

My hair type? I guess it's quite thick and bushy. I like to keep it fairly short and under control. Gets quite wavy and curly after a certain length too. It will stick out in all directions by itself which is why I generally tend to need a hair product. To tame the damn stuff!

After trying various products that turned out to be wax this week, I really don't know how so many people can use that stuff. Wax really does feel awful in your hair. Damned hard to wash it out once it's in too. Oh for more water based products in Japan :(
