Well to cut a long story short, my date I was meeting in Tokyo tomorrow just had a family emergency and has had to race back to her hometown. No point worrying about it, just one of those things that can't be helped. My dilemma is now that I've already paid for my tickets and have a reservation at a hotel.
So, in the manner of trying to turn a negative into a positive, I'm looking for any advice from people around the Tokyo area. does anybody know of any good bars, preferably in the Shinjuku area, that a guy can just roll into by himself for a comfortable drink, maybe meet a friendly crowd? I come to Tokyo/shinjuku quite often but I've never been out drinking round there, let alone by myself.
If anyone has any tips or ideas, I'd be glad to hear them.
me and my girls used to hang out in Lexington Queen in Roponggi. The staffs speaks english, but since I dont drink I cant tell you much about that. I noticed most of LQ's main customers are european ppl. Enjoy your time in Tokyo!!
Roppongi would be your best place to self-destruct (and they have some decent foreign chains there!).
As far as shinjuku - check out all those free flyers etc that they have on the streets for more info.
vanilla is cheap and big, but the people aren't so friendly. try club asia in shibuya, or even a number of smaller bars like the ruby room if you wanna meet some people..
vanilla is a yakuza club? interesting. it has enough VIP rooms thats for sure!
Thanks for all the advice guys. I tried out places like Hub and some Irish bar in Shinjuku but they were all so crowded. Not really good for just hanging out at the bar in those situations. I got so tired in the end looking for places that I went back to my hotel and just crashed out.
I like Tokyo but it's not easy hanging out by yourself.
One locations come to mind. In Roppongi, there is a shot bar called Geronimo that is a little bit hard to find. At the main intersection of Roppongi, there is a restaurant called Almond that everybody gathers in front of to meet. Standing in front of the Almond, and looking across the street (that has the expressway above it), you should be able to see the Geronimo sign, it is on the second floor of one building in from the corner. Nice, and everybody is friendly.
Hey hey hey ....you know what ..I got just the perfect place for you ..
A japanese friend took me to this place called "Golden Gai" ゴールデン街..in shinjuku ..(came back this morning 6 from there..lol)
Those streets are something which u may not find in any other country..small drinking places with seats of jus 5 or maximum 10 ..u get to meet so many interesting characters. All the bars have different themes..must go in tokyo!
