While reading the news on my RSS reader I came across an article from The Times (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article7117473.ece) on a £5 "fee" being levied against Japanese tourists visiting Peter Rabbit's "home" in the UK. What an amazing scam: to prey upon unsuspecting, naive tourists and milk them of around \1000--all in the name of some cute bunny. (Sort of summons to mind the "Save Toby" website a few years back.)
So: Comments on this policy of singling out a specific group of tourists and cajoling them into shelling out their money for something? Have you experienced a similar scheme?
I think it's fair to ask people to contribute to the upkeep of the property.
And I think it's unfair that The Times is implying that it's Japanese only being asked to pay.
"...Every Japanese tourist who comes to the area on the trail of the much-loved children's author will be asked to pay a £5 donation to support conservation work. In return they will be given a pin badge of Peter Rabbit, her most famous creation...."
