FDR has two memorable lines in his Inaugural Address::
"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." "This Nation asks for action, and action now."
JFK has one memorable line in his Inaugural Address:
"Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country. "
Did you find any good lines in Pres. Obama's Inaugural Address? I mean the lines that may be quoted by many people in the future.
I think those two may be candidates.
"The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works."
"To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict or blame their society's ills on the West, know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy."
The first line is obvious to many people, but not in the U.S. The second line was said in the context of terrorism. However, it is clear to me that he implies the recent atrocities in Gaza. And it can be a universal memorable message in the age of conflict and destruction.
Unfortunately, those two lines seem much weaker compared with those by FDR and JFK.
I would like to know what lines you like the best in his address :-)
