i have a question. i am in Tokyo soon and i will stay 3 months (1 month in Osaka). Not for study, only for party shopping and enjoy my life. I have many many friends who already visited tokyo and osaka. They told me about their experiences and sometimes i was really afraid and shocked (O_o)
Is it true that japanese girls (exspecially gals and fashionable girls) hate us gaijin girls???? Some guys tried to hunt a friend, she was angry and hit one of the guys back ( cause he tried to touch her) So he punch in her belly and run away with his friends!! I was really shocked! I heard so many about violent japanese guys!!!
And is it true that soooo many people look at you, everytime, everywhere, if you are blond gaijin???? I am really afraid cause i have whiteblond hair Oo Are they obsessed with hair or what???
Sorry for the stupid questions i am sure japan is a wonderful country, thats why i Love it since i was 12! But please be honest! >.<
Are you going to try to experience Japan based solely on what your friends told you, or are you going to enjoy YOURSELF?
As it goes in any countries, you need to leave your stereotypes and ideas about the people there or what they may do to you at the door.
Think of it this way - there are dirtbags in every country. If you come across a bigoted person there, you'll come across one anywhere. It doesn't reflect too much on the people. You just worry about trying to have a good time and make a positive example while there. If anything, the Japanese are more likely to find your hair color interesting than many Americans will. (If that is a picture of your in your profile, in parts of the US, you'd get pretty badly ridiculed for hair color like that.)
if you don't want people to stare at you, stop dying your hair white blond.
But if you just want to express yourself and like the way it looks, then chances are, people in a country like Japan will stare.
sei doch nicht so pessimistisch! Es ist alles Butter..........
just to inform everyone on the whole swastika thing... its not, at all. the swastika faces the opposite direction and the Buddhist symbol is much older then the swastika. they are completely different.

everyone hears stories before they come to japan, honestly, tokyo is like being in New york or san fran or la, just a lot safer and more Japanese. obviously there is culture differences... but its a melting pot just the same. Theres English everywhere, and not as many people look at you as weird as you might think. once you get outside of tokyo its much easier to get weird looks or feel uncomfortable. i only get weird looks when im being obnoxious or doing something that causes people to look. just have fun and watch for people who start to study English next to you on the trains! that means they want to talk to you usually. or at least they get really excited if you do talk to them.
Tequila.... you will have to go outside Tokyo to see a more traditional Japan. But once you see Tokyo and start having fun you will probably not want to go anywhere. Don`t worry.. they are going to LOVE you over here :)
I think JP is the one of safest country in the world. some of my friends have visited and experienced everything what we usually do. even when we walked back to my house after got smashed , no one looked at us and pay attention at us and talk to us.....
well because there is even such a place where only few people live in country side Niigata.
you will have a great time.
TEQUILA
I think it should be considered as an accident. They did that not because you're blond. They may do that to anyone. They're not racists, but rude.
Many japanese girls (and boys) try to make their hairs blond. That's why people always look at you ^o^
I agree that many japanese do not like gaijin (not only gaijin girls) because we (gaijin) do not look like them. But we can't change our appearance anyway. Just try to find those who accept you and enjoy life in Japan.
>it sounds naive but i wont go to western bars and western restaurants in japan.
>my friend lives in roppongi and i wanted to go to clubs there..
Vindication is a wonderful thing.
There aren't any really seriously dangerous places in Japan, when put up against any other major city in the world. If you specifically go looking for trouble, you could probably find it, but be smart and you'll never have any problems. Apart from a stroke of terrible luck that is.
I've been living and working in Osaka for over two years now and feel comfortable here. Anyone who is planning to go to another country for travel or work should learn and respect the culture and try not to listen to rumors, in my opinion the more you put in to your experience the more you can take from it.
Most of my friends here are Japanese and some gaijin but again thats my choice and circumstance I've had no problems here and found people helpful and interested with our culture.
As for gaijin bars when I first arrived I went to a few but found them to be like cattle markets and sometimes felt a little uncomfortable I've rarely seen any trouble here but sadly found most of the dickheads I met in these bars.......maybe it's me but I thought some people were just plain disrespectful or didn't bother to understand or accept their surroundings.
Treat the country nicely learn and explore and it will treat you well back!!
Once I say an oder lady with camo streaked green hair - excellent. Those stylish (?) oldies!
>55
Yeah some of those bars are awful! But I guess they are the right place for some people, and the stories I used to hear from a barman at who worked at Gas Panic (is that still in Roppongi?) who lived in our Gaijin house when I first got there...
hahahah XDD
it was really great, and thank you for all your help hahaha
i think i'll have fun there XD
i should ejoy life and get my own experiences <3
Question one: You will always meet stoned or drunk people - in any city, any country. If someone messes with you, it doen't mean everyone in that city, or country hates you.
I will answer your second question with another question: Imagine, one Asian (with black hair) among thousands of blondes in a street in Vilnius, Lithuania (or any other pretty much homogeneous European city). Don't you think people will stare at that person?
There is a thousand of Gaijin (and beautiful blond) girls anyway.. I don't think anybody care about you even you're walking by yourself. enjoy your night life in Japan.
No offence intended but I mean to say, why do you post saying its
too long?..people are just giving their points of view.
If you are in no mood then why comment?
TEQUILA I am sorry you heard such crazy exaggerations but I think *sometimes* that stuff can happen, but usually the gaijin that Japanese dislike are the ones who already show off a bad attitude themselves.
Those fashionable Japanese girls and the gals usually don't have a problem with gaijin, blonde or otherwise, who are fashionable...they are notorious for turning down gaijin men's advances but I've never heard of them having a bad attitude towards gaijin women (if you're fashionable, at least). Well I have seen some girls in Osaka who stare or giggle but they weren't "gals," they were more normal looking...and still that was only a few incidents.
Some of my blonde gaijin friends had strange exeriences (lots of staring) in the deep countryside but in Tokyo or Osaka or Kobe you're not going to have everyone staring at you just for being blonde...now if you're HOT and blonde, that may be a different story ;)
It's been pretty rare to encounter a violent Japanese guy for me here but I have encountered MANY aggressive and violent foreign men (but still most of them aren't like that anyway). As mentioned in this thread, avoid "gaijin bars" if you can. Maybe now and then it's ok to stop in but you'll meet so many negative people and total shitheads at those places, both gaijin and Japanese alike, and if you hang around there too much, they will try to influence your thinking as well. Oh and sometimes around Osaka (probably some parts of Tokyo too) you might get some sleazy old salaryman trying to pick up on you because he's trying to show off to his coworkers...no matter how persistent he is, turn him down, and eventually you'll probably hear his work buddies laughing their asses off at him.
Anyway Japan is a pretty safe country, of course you still need common sense, but don't let all the crazy stories you hear beforehand influence you too much or you'll develop an attitude of prejudging the place and the people which could prevent you from properly enjoying your time here. Almost everyone I've met who has had lots of crazy or bad experiences here was someone who already had a bad attitude to begin with, so I think people like that are kind of a magnet for negativity.
Well,if you are a blond white girl you are sacred for Japanese men. For us you look pretty! Japanese women are annoyed at your beauty!
It's joke.www….
However it shows part of our view. You may not understand that Japanese have sacred, scared, respect, despise and islandic but pretty views to those who are not Japanese.
You do'nt understand Japanese 100%.Even Japanese cannot.
I'll glad if you have Japanese friends. This tiny island is filled with 100,000,000 people!
